Working on three dramas at the same time, Bae In Hyuk proved how much love and passion he poured out for his craft.
Recently concluding the series with a high-spirited note, Cheer Up left a motivating message to the youth. Led by Bae In Hyuk, who plays Theia’s cheerleading captain, he shares the challenging preparations he went through.
Due to the delay in the airing of the episodes, the actor revealed feeling uneasy that the flow of the series would be affected. However, he expressed his gratitude to viewers who watched until the end.

Bae In Hyuk, who plays the cheerleading squad captain, admitted that he began practicing dancing even before filming began.
“Since I am not a member but a leader, I thought I needed more understanding and energy about dance. So, I tried to practice as a group while working on Why Her, take lessons on a one-on-one basis, improve my physical strength, and learn the tension about dancing.”
He also revealed that he had a physically demanding day due to the addition of cheerleading squad practice to his already hectic schedule.
“It was difficult to adjust the schedule and physically difficult because we had to practice while shooting together. Not only me but also the members seemed to have a hard time. Many of my friends were hurt. I don’t know if it’s right to say it was hard, but I think it was hard.“
Additionally, Bae revealed gaining 8 kilograms for Why Her, but lost 10 kilograms while filming Cheer Up.
“My friends lost a lot of weight. In fact, the lighting director said that he came out in a cheerful manner at first, but it became darker as it went back.”
When asked about his similarities with his character, Captain Jung-woo, Bae confessed that he does not have the level of maturity Jung-woo has.
On his Chemistry with Theia Members
Bae In-hyuk received praise for his excellent character development, which complemented his heartwarming visuals, as well as his fresh youth chemistry with Han Ji Hyun. He also recalled how much fun it was to work with actors his age, such as Han Ji Hyun, Kim Hyun Jin, and Jang Gyu Ri.
“I only see other scenes on set unless I make an appointment, but Cheer Up required practice in the material of the cheerleading squad, so I got very close and relied on it. If one of them sat down because it was hard, I thought we had gotten to know each other a lot. You have to have good chemistry in a group scene, and I think it’s well expressed.”
In addition, Bae also applauds Han’s energy on set which makes their chemistry on cam became seamless. Considering that filming the series is exhausting, he reveals Han’s consistent positive energy.
“Since Ji Hyun gave me bright energy as Hae-yi, Jung-woo was also adjusting to her. I think that’s why Jung-woo was able to become softer.”
On the other hand, he describes Kim as his younger brother.
“He is such a bright brother, but I think he is the older brother who smiles for his father. He looks like an older brother since he is tall and big, but he has a child-like figure.”
Moreover, the actor said that he often asks Jang for help when it comes to dancing.
Bae also made a guest appearance in tvN’s Under the Queen’s Umbrella, which aired concurrently with Cheer Up and was well received by viewers. The actor also mentioned a phrase that Kim Hye Soo made him overwhelmed; ‘Honey, you are so good. You worked hard.'”
On Working on Three Projects At the Same Time
Bae In Hyuk has been busier than anyone else this year. He starred in SBS’s Why Her, Cheer Up, tvN’s Under The Queen’s Umbrella, and a movie, Ditto.
“Since I wasn’t just doing Cheer Up, I didn’t have time to sleep and used to take a nap during the meal. I shot the first part of Cheer Up in the second half of Why Her, and Ditto and Under The Queen’s Umbrella in the middle of Cheer Up”
He added,
“I had a lot of worries about how to rest after shooting this time. I’m just going to eat something delicious or go to bed. I think it’s right to think about my body rather than spend it well. After that, I think I have to think about how to spend my day off.”
For the actor, Cheer Up has become a work that can break his limits since he revealed not to be the type of person who can dance well. As for Under The Queen’s Umbrella, Bae also considers the historical drama as a challenge.
Appearing as a main and supporting actor in various works, he reveals his driving force in making a restless and hard-working journey.
“I think it’s my greed. In a way, it may seem to be a simple way to understand, but since it’s what I want to do, I think I tried not to think it would be difficult and continue.”
Given the rise of his fame and one after another project, he expresses the tension and pressure he felt but sees it as a way to improve.
“It is true that there are no processes to go through in the middle. It seemed that I would become stronger and not collapse when I filled those things. I think I got a big role quickly in a big drama. I try to overcome the burden more than to fear and avoid it just because I feel burdened. I think a certain amount of tension and pressure is helpful.”
When asked if he can expect a prolific move in 2023, Bae said,
“I think I should pay for things I want to do at the moment or when I feel greedy. If so, I wonder if we will be begging like this again next year.”
