PRESS CONFERENCE: “Agency” Lead Stars Reveal Details Of Their Character Preparations

Slated to premiere tonight, the cast of Agency talks about the preparation details for their character transformation.

At the press conference for the JTBC’s new drama Agency held online on January 5, Director Lee Chang Min and actors Lee Bo Young, Jo Sung Ha, Son Na Eun, Han Jun Woo, and Jeon Hye Jin attended the event.

Agency is a workplace drama directed by Lee Chang Min. The story follows Go Ah In’s (Lee Bo Young) career path as she climbs to the highest position in an advertising agency. She came from a poor family and didn’t graduate from a prestigious university.

However, her background didn’t stop her eagerness for success. Her colleagues view her as a person who only cares about achievement and money.

Through her dedication, she strives to become the first female lead executive at a major advertising agency.

The show’s director, Lee Chang Min, began by introducing the characters and explaining the premise.

“I attempted to make the human relationships in the story entertaining for the audience. It is a drama about a unique relationship. The actors’ chemistry was greater than that of other office workers. I believe that to be a strength. And because the writer worked in the advertising field, the writer captured the details perfectly.”

Character Preparations

Lee Bo Young, who played the role of Go Ah In, who became the first female executive of a VC group, said that she experienced a strong sense of liberation while filming.

In addition, she describes her character as a person who only looks ahead and constantly strives to survive in the face of internal politics at work.

“I am playing a goal-oriented person who prioritizes victory over the process. In addition to lacking empathy and humanity, this character believes she can succeed independently. However, because she never says anything wrong, this character is difficult to refute. It was so entertaining to have a character who is goal-oriented and devoted to her desires.”

Moreover, the actress said it was the first time she’d ever had such catharsis while performing, raising hopes for her acting in the drama.

“Before others, she conceals her weaknesses, but when she’s alone, these sides emerge.”

Meanwhile, Jo Sung Ha takes on the role of Choi Chang Soo, the head of the planning department, who aspires to become the next representative of the VC project.

“Since this is my first lead role, the director and I collaborated extensively on the character’s tone.”

Furthermore, Son Na Eun, who plays the role of Kang Han Na, the youngest daughter of VC group chairman Kang and the head of SNS headquarters, shared that she added all of her efforts to give life to her character.

“This is my most unique character. Therefore, I focused on styling. I discussed style, props, and accessories with the team. Hannah screams and gets upset because she’s upfront and transparent. I could seem hostile initially, but I wanted to appear attractive and lovable.”

Han Joon Woo also expressed his concern Regarding his role as secretary Park Yeong Woo, Kang Han Na’s right-hand man.

“He is a person who cares deeply for Han Na. I was nervous about expressing this effectively. I thought a lot about whether or not I would fall out.”

Lastly, Jeon Hye Jin, who played the working mother and 10-year veteran copywriter Cho Eun Jeong, showed her affection for her character by saying:

“Many people, including myself, have problems and conflicts between family and career.  I experienced bitterness as I witnessed Eun Jeong’s determined and optimistic approach to the problem. I wished to convey it appealingly.”

The first episode of Agency will air for the first time at 10:30 pm on January 7.
