PRESS CONFERENCE: “My Demon” Promises Fascinating Fantasy-Romance Story
My Demon Opening Week Highlights
Lady boss Do Do-hee (Kim Yoo Jung) is the heiress of Mirae Group albeit not sharing the same blood as the family that owns it. She is close to Chairman Ju Chun-suk (Kim Hae Sook) whom she fondly calls “master”. Her position inescapably causes trouble for Chairman Ju’s children and relatives.
For that reason, Chairman Ju pushes her to get married. In one of the blind dates set by Ju Almighty, Do-hee meets Jung Gu-won, a demon who makes deals with humans in desperate situations in exchange for their souls. Thinking he was her newest blind date; she later realized the misunderstanding.
As the known successor of Mirae Group, death threats are inevitable for Do-hee. After commemorating her parents’ death who died on her birthday when she was 11, she senses something wrong with the driver she got. Fending for herself on a dark misty night, she calls for help. At that same moment, Gu-won is in search of someone hopelessly needing help and he is led to where Do-hee is.
However, another man is on standby watching what’s happening and drives straight to where Gu-won and Do-hee both fell into the nearby stream.
Saving Gu-won, the tattoo on his inner wrist magically moves to Do-hee. Later, they wake up in the hospital and Gu-won is baffled at his current situation. His power appears to have transferred to the strange girl he keeps meeting unexpectedly.
Dealing with a recent loss in the company initiated by Almighty Ju’s daughter, Do-hee sets herself busy. Gu-won who struggles to figure out the cryptic event he just encountered with a woman decides to meet her.
His intention in bringing her to a river is to try to retrieve his tattoo but to no avail. Do-hee gets mad at him and lashes out her frustrations as well. While treading a crosswalk a man on his motorcycle tried to throw acid on her. But Gu-won appears to protect her.
My Demon Opening Week Musings
My Demon established an intriguing story that would get better as you watch it in its opening week. Following the signature charms of K-Dramas fantasy romantic comedy and the apparent chemistry between Kim Yoo Jung and Song Kang, viewers can easily bet their time adding it to their watch list.
What’s the reason behind the transfer of Gu-won’s power and his expected entanglement to Do-hee to regain his power would be one of the narrative drivers. Based on the released details, the opening chapters entrenched the predicted contractual marriage.
Interestingly, for both characters, it could be something natural. So, the romantic development that would ensue surely would add merits to the story. Notably, there’s really a striking synergy in the pairing of Song Kang and Kim Yoo Jung that makes a viewer easily immersed in the story.
The revelation of Almighty Ju’s possible involvement in Do-hee’s parents’ demise, hopefully, would be not as heartbreaking as it seems. From here, Do-hee’s succession battle and how Gu-won would protect her is the projected gist of the series.
