“The Potato Lab” Reveals Character Sketches At Recent Table Read

A unique blend of comedy, romance, and potatoes is coming up in The Potato Lab!

Potato Research Institute is a refreshing healing rom-com set in a rural potato research center, where laughter, love, and spuds take center stage. The story follows Mi-kyung (Lee Sun-bin), a passionate researcher devoted to potatoes, and Baek-ho (Kang Tae-oh), a cold and pragmatic strategist. Their clashing personalities spark both hilarious confrontations and unexpected romance. As they navigate their differences, the drama serves up a heartwarming mix of sizzling chemistry and comedic charm.

With director Kang Il-soo and writer Kim Ho-soo—known for hits like Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung and Solomon’s Perjury—reuniting, expectations are high for another genre-blending success.

Sharing details of the lead cast, the series also unveiled some snaps at the recently held script reading.

Lee Sun Bin transforms into Kim Mi-kyung, a lively and dedicated potato researcher. Her expressive acting captures Mi-kyung’s journey from a carefree scientist to someone shaken by Baek-ho’s presence.

Kang Tae Oh, making his highly anticipated return after military service, plays So Baek-ho, a strict and emotionally detached corporate strategist. His bright first-love smile contrasts with his unyielding principles—until he meets Mi-kyung, who challenges everything he stands for. Their fiery dynamic and unexpected sparks promise to deliver both comedy and heartfelt moments.

Lee Hak Joo adds dramatic tension as Park Ki-se, Mi-kyung’s smooth yet unwelcome ex-boyfriend, while Kim Ga Eun plays her best friend, a successful web novelist. Shin Hyun Seung joins as Mi-kyung’s laid-back younger brother, running a guesthouse with zero conflict skills.

The Potato Research Institute wouldn’t be complete without its eccentric team: Yoo Seung-mok delivers comedic gold as the legendary “Potato Doctor” and longtime researcher. Kwak Ja-hyung plays the self-proclaimed hipster manager, while Woo Jung-won perfectly embodies the deputy manager holding the team together.

The Potato Lab promises to be an entertaining weekend treat. Catch the premiere on Saturday, March 1st, at 9:20 PM on tvN!
