“Living” Cast Surprised Yang Kuei Mei On Set, Providing Different Perspective To Her On-Screen Husband King Jieh-wen

Taiwanese series Living (有生之年) is set to release on iQIYI on September 17 worldwide.

As we inch closer to the date of release, more and more character stories have also been revealed. In the latest set of teasers released, the audience was in for a treat and many promised to tune in after witnessing the superb acting skills of Yang Kueimei (杨贵媚), King Jieh-wen (喜翔), Sun Ke-fang (孙可芳), Beatrice Fang (方志友) and young actor Hsieh Zhanrong (谢展荣).

In contrast with their sour relationship on screen, King Jieh-wen gives Yang Kueimei a sweet kiss in real life, leaving her in shock

Living centers itself around the bittersweet story of the Gao Family with King Jieh-wen and Yang Kueimei acting as a husband-and-wife pair that depended on a breakfast store to bring up their three sons. All this changed when father Gao was suspected of being in an extramarital affair and all that was left of this relationship were never-ending fights and quarrels.

Ruby Lin-Produced Taiwanese Series “Living” To Launch On iQiyi in September

Despite their sour relationship on screen, the two maintain a strong friendship off-screen. To celebrate Yang Kueimei’s birthday which falls on the 6th, King Jieh-wen, together with the two’s onscreen grandson, Hsieh Zhanrong, turned up at her latest drama’s set with a bouquet of flowers and a cake. Surprised by their appearance, she exclaimed, “I’m in shock, my husband and grandson are both here!”, with the duo even giving her a friendly peck on the cheek as she smiled brightly for the camera.

Seeing that the trio finally reunited, they took the chance to promote Living. As the trio shared their anticipation for the series, Yang Kueimei confidently said, “It is definitely a must-watch! Although we can get super noisy, but isn’t that what every family is like?

Sticking to his usual humorous character, King Jieh-wen also promised that it wouldn’t be a disappointment and to look for him if it is. The shy Hsieh Zhanrong also shared his take on the show, describing it as a series that allows you to look at the different problems different generations might encounter, “Whatever happens in the Gao family can also take place in real life.

Yang Kueimei and King Jieh-wen sang praises for Hsieh Zhanrong’s performance in his debut work, Living

When asked about their opinions of Hsieh Zhanrong’s performance in his debut work, Yang Kueimei felt that he was slightly too nervous especially when there were very experienced actors like Wu Kangren, Joe Cheng (郑元畅) and JC Lin (林哲熹), and many more, hence his nervousness can be understood.

As he eventually got more comfortable, his anxiousness improved significantly. Yang Kueimei even shared that she would playfully hit him to help him relax.

King Jieh-wen on the other hand really saw Hsieh Zhanrong as his own and even praised his performance, especially seeing how it was his first time acting, “I’ll definitely give him a higher score than Yang Kueimei did.”

Hsieh Zhanrong gained much attention as a second-generation celebrity but he insists on not mentioning his dad in response to the curiosity of the audience.

Living gathered experienced actors from different generations, garnering much attention from the public way before it was even released, including William Hsieh’s (谢祖武)’ son Hsieh Zhanrong, who plays Joe Cheng and Beatrice Fang’s son inducing many comments if William Hsieh had given him feedback on how he could improve.

In response, Hsieh Zhanrong mentioned that the father and son rarely talk about work, and separate it from their personal relationship. He also shared that he doesn’t usually interfere or dig too much into William Hsieh’s work life but is thankful for all that he has learned from the seniors on set during the filming process of Living.

Living will be available on iQIYI (www.iq.com & apps) worldwide (except Hong Kong and Macau) from September 17.
