Queen of Tears

Queen Of Tears Episode 15 Highlights

“I just want to stop seeing you being tormented by him”

Doubling down on the deceit, Eun-seong claims Hyun-woo persistently asked Hae-in to revise her will prior to the surgery. And when he failed to convince her, Hyun-woo staged an accident and caused a truck to crash into Hae-in’s car. Eun-seong even has the nerve to steal Hyun-woo’s thunder and claim he injured his hand while trying to break the glass to save Hae-in. Also, what is all this nonsense about Hyun-woo cheating on Hae-in and her attempting to commit suicide because of it?

To make sure Hae-in stays away from everyone who might correct his lies, Eun-seong takes advantage of the bad relationship Hae-in had with her family before and mixes lies with facts to ensure she wouldn’t believe anything they say and keep her “promise” of marrying him.

“I need nausea medication. My heart is racing.”

Eun-seong might have tried hard to erase any traces of Hyun-woo, but it all goes down the drain. Curious about what kind of person her ex-husband is, Hae-in visits Hyun-woo in prison, putting up a cold exterior. Yet the sincerity in Hyun-woo’s eyes and how he only worries about her well-being make Hae-in’s heart melt. Her heart keeps racing at Hyun-woo’s sight, even if her mind has completely forgotten about him.

Hilariously enough, even with the truckload of lies, Eun-seong has been feeding Hae-in, she is just as nonchalant to him, calling out Eun-seong’s obsessive ways and kicking him out when he drops by without permission. Try as he might, planting a GPS tracker and changing Hae-in’s staff, Eun-seong won’t be able to control Hae-in.

“I am uncomfortable. So please resign and find a new job.”

With the real murderer caught (the hitman Eun-seong hired), Hyun-woo gets acquitted. And outside the prison walls is Hae-in waiting for him. You know, she should be on her toes since her dangerous stalker has been set free. Hae-in might as well keep an eye on him and see if Hyun-woo will scheme anything at it. While at it, Hae-in can also take note of Hyun-woo’s preferences.

But there is no need to stalk Hyun-woo, as Hae-in will soon run into him at work after Hyun-woo requests his reinstatement and Eun-seong has to go along with it. If there is one trait Hae-in has retained even after losing her memories, it is saying the opposite of how she feels, telling Hyun-woo to get another job since she feels uncomfortable having him around and embarrassing herself when she mistakes her bag getting stuck on the armchair for Hyun-woo grabbing onto her.

“Don’t try to skip the wedding just because I lost my memory.”

I have to give Hae-in credit for having outstanding self-awareness, though. The girl knew exactly how she was going to behave after losing her memories. At least Hae-in came prepared, renting out the aquarium where Hyun-woo proposed to her and sending invitations to both of them.

On the screen is displayed a video of Hyun-woo and Hae-in recording messages to their future selves during their wedding. Who knew it would be played in such a situation? Those messages for sure hit deeper than our leads thought they would when recording them.

Faced with this, Hae-in is doubtful. If Hyun-woo really cheated on her, why would she organize such an event and even have flowers delivered to him with a card saying she wants another wedding? But as Hyun-woo says, Hae-in should only trust herself. She doesn’t have to believe Hyun-woo, but she should be skeptical of Eun-seong as well.

“He is the reason why I didn’t want to lose my memory.”

Noticing the scar on Hyun-woo’s hand, Hae-in gets reminded of Eun-seong’s claim to have hurt himself while trying to save her. And the sight of Eun-seong’s hand clean of wounds definitely tells who the liar is.

The final blow, though, is Hae-in coming across the diary she wrote before the surgery and told Hyun-woo to read only after she goes into the OR. While getting arrested, Hyun-woo dropped the diary. So, it went to Eun-seong’s possession, and he tried to burn it away.

Fortunately, it wasn’t completely damaged. After reading the words she wrote to herself before the surgery about how Hyun-woo is the only one for her, Hae-in rushes over to see Hyun-woo. But unfortunately, Eun-seong makes a move again, having Hae-in kidnapped and running over Hyun-woo with his car. What a way to end the episode.

Queen Of Tears Episode 15 Musings

While it is totally in character for Eun-seong to try to eliminate Hyun-woo (This guy goes by the motto if I can’t have it, no one else can.), it feels as if the story is trying to make him win on purpose so that the tension is sustained until the last minute. I understand how dangerous Eun-seong is, but Hyun-woo is smart enough to see this coming. So, how couldn’t he suspect Eun-seong was tailing Hae-in?

The evil duo having an inner dispute and bringing their downfall by their hands has been building up for many weeks. So, why didn’t the story go in this direction instead of having that frustrating turn of events? Is it a must to have the leads suffer until the last minute to have a happy ending? Why is closure and sending off those beautiful characters we came to love not given enough time but other annoying arcs that no one asked for keep going on to the end?

I tried to hold back a lot. But it is getting too hard to keep watching the drama with the surging tension we are getting. The story was billed as a romcom featuring a married couple who try to reignite their long-lost romance after years of miscommunication. But what we got is entirely different. We have wholly dived into makjang territory and the drama makes no effort trying to hide it.

With only one episode left, I desperately wish for a happy ending for our leads. At least this way, I won’t regret investing so much time in watching it. Our BaekHong couple went through a lot and it is only right to give them a happy ending after making them suffer throughout the drama.
