Moonlight Quick Plot Recap
After graduating Chu-Li, (Esther Yu) dreams of working at Yuan Yue Publishing House. Even though she is a Finance major, she stills pursue her aspiration to work as an editor.
However, things are not easy because Chu-Li needs to convince Zhou-Chuan to choose Yuan Yue to publish his work. Chu-Li did everything to persuade Zhou-Chuan about this matter.
At first, Chu-Li expects that Zhou-Chuan is gentle, but when she met the writer her expectations turned upside down because Zhou-Chuan is immature and has a temper.
Later on, Zhou Chuan discovers that his long-time internet friend “Monkey” happens to be Chu-Li. He got interested in her and accepted Chu-Li’s offer.
As time goes by, Zhou-Chuan starts to catch feelings for Chu-Li but he denies it to himself. When Yu-Cheng (Yan Shi Ze), Zhou Chuan’s best friend, got to know Chu-Li, he starts to court her and this makes Zhou-Chuan jealous.
Yu-Cheng doesn’t last long in courting Chu-Li because he knows that he still loves Bai-Zhi (Ma Yin Yin). When Zhou-Chuan recognizes his feelings for Chu-Li, he finally confessed.
Chu-Li also falls to Zhou-Chuan, but she’s isn’t aware that her internet friend “Mr.Fox” is Zhou-Chuan. They started to date and it gets complicated when Chu-Li discovers Zhou Chuan’s secret.

Struggles in the Workplace
When Chu-Li starts working in Yuan Yue, she suffers from different oppressions. One antagonist of the drama is Deputy Editor Miao (Zhou Pu), he keeps looking down on Chu-Li because she’s new.
Miao keeps boasting that he’s been a writer for 10 years and that Chu-Li is no match to him. However, Chu-Li keeps doing her best to do her job. She also got Zhou-Chuan as their writer which makes some employees jealous because of her achievement.
During the time when Chu-Li is experiencing hardships in her work, Zhou-Chuan helped her to overcome this. They helped each other, especially when Chu-Li got suspended over an issue.
In return, Chu-Li defended Zhou-Chuan when scandal and rumors surround Zhou-Chuan. Together, they start to flourish in the path that they take as lovers and writers.
Zhou Chuan and Yu Cheng’s Bromance
In the drama, Zhou-Chuan and Yu-Cheng are best friends and are both writers. When Zhou-Chuan needs some relationship advice Yu-Cheng was there to help him.
Yu-Cheng is also aware that Zhou-Chuan is in love with Chu-Li, that’s why he keeps pushing Zhou-Chan to confess and court Chu-Li.
On the other side, Zhou-Chan also teases Yu-Cheng because he is single, but deep down Yu-Cheng still loves Bai-Zhi. They broke up long ago because Yu-Cheng thinks that Bai-Zhi lied to him regarding some work issues.
Over time, Yu-Cheng got the guts again to pursue Bai-Zhi and lived a happy married life. Zhou-Chuan and Chu-Li also got married. They also got a baby girl. In the end, they all remained good friends.
Chu-Li’s Helpful Heart
One heartwarming story in the drama is the story of Suo-Heng. This writer has her own unique style of writing and focuses more on the historical context.
One day, her contract with Yuan Yue was terminated because her works don’t catch attention at all. This happens because Deputy Editor Miao wanted to change her writing style.
Suo-Heng got depressed and lost her will to write again. However, Chu-Li did her best to cheer up Suo-Heng by organizing a fan meeting event. Suo-Heng was happy with the warm-hearted gesture.
In the end, Suo-Heng was back to Yuan Yue with the help of Chu-Li and other employees of the publishing company.
Moonlight Series Musings
To be honest, when I first watched Moonlight, I was shocked because of the voice of the female lead. It’s so small and sometimes I want to cover my ears. As I continue to watch it, I think I got used to her voice. *wink
Esther-Yu’s character in Moonlight is a cute and passionate one. Chu-Li is full of energy and dreams. Meanwhile, Ryan Ding has appealing looks and is a funny character.
I hope that they worked more on the character’s chemistry, but as I watched the drama what piqued me the most is not the romance, but the struggles that Chu-Li had while building a career touted to be not fitting for her.
It took me to the realization that you can’t control the principles and minds of your workmates. Especially now, that I’m a graduating student, her character enlightened me about these hardships.
However, sometimes it’s better to not entertain these people because, in the end, you may just lose yourself. It’s good to have a mindset and exclude yourself from these toxic people and situations.
There’s nothing more precious than having your own peace and contentment in life.
