August 2020 K-Pop Comeback Highlights: Battle of the Bands

This K-Band comeback list is a treasure trove waiting for you to be explored.

August gave us a lot. From long-awaited comebacks to unexpected summer bops, it surely delivered new songs to add to our playlists. I compiled this list to make sure everyone didn’t miss a single comeback this month. I’m a huge K-Band enthusiast so making this list was a blast for me. I hope you enjoy these tracks as I did too.

Disclaimer: Do note that some artists here are new and fresh for me. I might have different opinions or am not educated enough about the artists yet. Nevertheless, let’s discover what August gifted us for the past 31 days.

  • Underrated Artists

SURL ft, Jay Park – “Don’t Say No”

This is a hidden gem in its own right. Maybe I’m just really a sucker for bands that sound like this but I liked this song so much. Surl is a band to look out for. This track, in particular, is perfect for night drives. I can’t say anything for Jay Park’s vocals since I still can’t process how a guy like him exist. So yes, don’t underestimate Korean bands guys!

MONNI – Romantic Breeze

MONNI self-identified as a band that brings romantic and relatable music. Romantic Breeze is a chill song with beautiful vocals. Their depiction of young love gave me chills as it’s too realistic and familiar. It’s as if they know what we went through and gave us what we needed to hear. This laidback summer track is immediately added to my ‘young and in love’ playlist.

  • Superband Talents

Hoppipolla – Let’s!

It’s no surprise that JTBC’s Superband winners delivered a great song like this. I like how youthful the track is. With a creative music video, this summer number is perfect for chilling by the pool or the beach. Aside from the groovy guitar melody, their relaxing vocals will make you fall in love. It will also make you dream about your ideal summer vacation in 3 minutes and 23 seconds.

LUCY – Jogging

The K-Bands are rocking this year’s summer! Jogging literally sounds like fresh summer fun. The funky guitar and keyboard melody in the background will make your head bop from the first few notes. Moreover, Lucy is like your younger brothers who have a band. Another group of contestants from JTBC’s Superband, they are artists lookout for and they surely made me a fan just from this track. Can I just mention the beautiful use of the violin in this track? Pure genius.

The Rose – Black Rose

If you’ve been out and about in the K-Band scene like me, you would probably recognize The Rose. They’re one of the most brilliant and underrated K-Bands out there, in my opinion. Black Rose, a song named after their fans, is a love letter from the members to their supporters. It’s personal, raw, and emotional. Yes, I shed some tears while watching. I was a crying mess after.  The band used phone cam footage or pictures and videos they took with their phones and posted on social media for the music video. This is the song they released before going on a hiatus. Surely, I will be waiting for their return.

Day6- Where the Sea Sleeps

Yes, I am closing the list off with another tearjerker, well, for MyDays at least. Day6’s latest slow pop comes from their sub-unit, Even of Day. It’s made up of Young K (I almost typed Brian), Wonpil and, Dowoon. The song is comforting in its own right. With a cute animation to couple with the special song, the message felt like a warm hug from each member. Seeing references to Jae and Sungjin in the music video made me burst into tears. Maybe I’m just really a big crybaby.

In conclusion, the glorious month of K-Band August gave us hidden gems and unexpected tearjerkers. There is one thing for sure: the next month will be even crazier.
