Grateful for the love received, Jung Kyung Ho shares his thoughts about his recently-wrapped up drama, as well as his future plans.
From his remarkable portrayals in Prison Playbook and Hospital Playlist; Jung Kyung Ho scores another interesting role in the hit tvN drama with Jeon Do Yeon.
Regarding the ending of the series, he expressed how he hoped that the series would remain a warm memory. So, he was happy that the viewers enjoyed and loved it.
Portraying the role of elite Math teacher Choi Chi-yeol in Crash Course In Romance, Jung Kyung Ho seals another memorable character. Revealing that he did not set his expectations high, he credits how people were engrossed in Jeon Do Yeon’s bright acting after a long time.
“I got contacted by so many people when the series started. I think the romance of the president of the side dish shop was fresh. It’s a story everyone knows, but I think the characters are so alive.”
When asked the reason why he took the role, Jung conveys his desire to work with Writer Yang Hee Sung whose works he enjoyed a lot; and Director Yoo Je Won a good person who is also acquainted with his close brother friends.
“Above all, being able to act with senior Jeon Do Yeon was a good opportunity for me. How could it be bad to work with her? It was touching. The fact that I was acting with someone I like and respect was really good for 7 months.”
Speaking of working with renowned actress Jeon Do Yeon, the actor picks the realization that the strengths of the things that don’t change are important. He relays how he has been acting for 20 years flowing to the rapid changes.
“I thought that a period of change might be needed. The previous work was a tough but warm doctor, and this time it was a tough character. I thought I should change, but the moment I saw Choi Chi-yeol on TV, I felt a little different from before. And I have been doing the same roles, so I also thought that it was a time. I realized how hard it had become, and I thought that this was not a little wrong and that the change was natural.”
On Challenging The Role of Choi Chi-yeol
Reaping praise and love from the viewers for his role as “one trillion won” man and star teacher Choi Chi-yeol; Jung Kyung Ho shared how he focused on presenting a relatable character.
“I think I made the best use of narcissism in the parts that were written in the script,” he said.
Interestingly, Jung does not know about “star teacher” just as how he’s not really inclined to Mathematics. Thus, it was really hard work for him to embody the character.
“I didn’t know the meaning of “star instructor”, and I didn’t even know that this world existed. I didn’t even know 0 in mathematics. I had a lot of worries about how to express a math instructor. We talked a lot about it. First of all, I didn’t try to understand what mathematics was, and I tried to memorize the formula itself in the drama, and then I practiced.”
Paying attention to his character, the actor exerted effort into the romantic journey and the change that permeated when he reunited with his savior’s family.
On Working With The Cast of Crash Course In Romance
Attesting to how the cast chemistry contributed to the genuine warmth of the series, Jung Kyung Ho admired Jang Young Nam for her excellent portrayal of an overachieving mother. Likewise, the other annoying mom, portrayed by Kim Sun Young amused the actor.
He also reveals being close to Oh Eui Shik, with whom he worked before in When The Devil Calls Your Name. That explains the adorable bromance translated onscreen between them.
Among the junior he worked with, Jung remarks fascination with Roh Yoon Seo’s superb acting, and that he looks forward to her future projects. He is also amazed at Lee Chae Min’s deer-like eyes.
On Future Goals As An Actor
Following his latest hit project, Jung Kyung Ho intends to show more different sides of himself.
Responding to the reaction of his girlfriend Choi Sooyoung and his family, he said they enjoyed watching it. He also reveals how unlike Chi-yeol, in real life, he is not a sweet lover.
Approaching his 20th anniversary as an artist, he was asked if there was a moment he wants to go back to.
“I don’t want to go back even just yesterday. I always do my best when working on a project. I try to leave no regrets as much as possible. When I say I’m going back, the first thing I think is, ‘I have to do that again?’ I think I’ve been listening. I’ve done well and I’m proud. I’m more of a living-the-moment person.”
Going candid, he also reveals a new hobby.
“I’m not the type to relieve stress by meeting people. My MBTI is my ‘I’, so I tend to recharge when I’m alone. And recently, I bought a black-and-white camera after being bewitched by the camera director of Crash Course In Romance. These days, I’m focusing on taking pictures.”
Conveying his insights about the roles he will take in the future; he smartly discerned the limits he has to set.
“Since I’ve been working non-stop, I think Jung Kyung-ho has grown as a person by taking on various roles, but I think there are some limits. I have to play various roles while being true to the character. I wonder if I’ll be in the right place if I play a variety of roles or focus on roles worth pouring my passion into considering my age. I’m not old, I’m not young, I’m in an intermediate position.”
Lastly, he commends himself for doing a great job acting responsibly. He also hopes to work with Director Yoo Je Won again in the future.
