Lee Jun Ho expresses his gratitude for everyone’s love and support for the recently concluded drama The Red Sleeve.
In MBC’s drama The Red Sleeve, Lee Jun Ho portrayed the young Jeongjo, who loves the court lady Deok-im, portrayed by Lee Se Young.
Moreover, female viewers in their 30s and 40s had difficulty sleeping at night due to the lead pairing’s absolutely stellar chemistry.
As a result, the drama’s ratings increased by 17.4% (Nielsen Korea) on the small screen, when it was previously impossible to surpass 10%. Additionally, the actor won the Top Excellence Award for Male Actor in a Mini-Series at the 2021MBC Drama Awards.
Lee Jun Ho conveys his bewilderment that many people would appreciate him as an actor.
“I emptied my greed by repeating the lines in the play that say ‘even a king can’t do anything about people’s hearts,’ and I’m proud of the good results.”
Preparation of Lee Jun Ho For The Red Sleeve
Previously, the work had several actors, such as Lee Seo Jin and Hyun Bin in the role of Jeongjo.
Meanwhile, the actor reflected on the auditioning process, noting, “My friend’s mother joked that only the best stars of the time take on the role of Jeongjo, but after hearing that, the burden increased.”
Accordingly, Lee Jun Ho recounts his thoughts while he was preparing for The Red Sleeve. He received concern at first from a senior who is called “the king of kings,” considering he has taken on numerous characters.
“Seeing that, I was encouraged to work hard and build a new awareness. Because I’m from Jeonju Lee clan, in a way, I’m acting as an ancestor, and my father especially liked it.”
Correspondingly, he is considered the sexiest Jeongjo of all time by the viewers. He even filmed the kiss scene with Lee Se Young. Also, the scene of him having a bath while flaunting his six-pack split from chest to abs was quite popular.
It was at this point that the actor learned he was a part of both “Sexy Idol” and “Beast Idol.”
“Everyone, from producer Jeong Ji In to his partner, Lee Se Young, sat down and deliberated on the appropriate level. How would you like to shoot a scene in a historical drama that is rated 19? haha! I tried to make the viewers excited by making the most of the sexy atmosphere.”

Lee Jun Ho’s Dream Finally Came True
With this drama, it is concluded that the label of idol-turned-actor has been obliterated entirely. Lee Jun Ho stated categorically, “I don’t care if that prejudice follows me for the rest of my life.”
Apart from that, the actor asserted that the prejudice he encounters is inescapable.
“So, when I got compliments on my acting, there were many times when I didn’t like it, thinking, ‘Does it mean that you’re good at being an idol?’ Now I know that this is a problem that can be solved if I work hard. And, hopefully, it’s also the reason why I don’t care about anything else and just focus on the role I’m assigned to.“
Notably, the acting award is “a dream I had often as a child”. Lee Jun Ho manifested a scenario from his dream in which he delivered his acceptance speech.
In 2017, he contended for the Grand Prize with Namgoong Min, whom he met on KBS 2TV’s Chief Kim.
“I was a strong candidate for the grand prize around, but I asked if it was disappointing. Not at all! It is an honor to have Namgoong Min and his name mentioned together. I was happy when my senior praised me, saying I did a great job.”
Finally, Jun Ho intends to rigorously go between the stage and the filming location in the future, both as 2PM and as an actor.
“2PM is my roots. When I’m acting, I become ‘actor Lee Jun Ho’. Whatever it is, we will continue to do it as we have always been. That’s all I can say with confidence.”
