Dauntless and resolute to his convictions, Prosecutor Kim Hee-woo summon powerful politician Cho Tae-sub (Jung Kyung Young) to the prosecutor’s office.

His confidence though is easily subdued when his witness was easily silenced by Tae-sub’s minion.

“Take your time to prepare. Trap him perfectly.”

Ergo, Hee-woo returns to the past. Aside from being given the chance to avenge his misfortune, he is also presented the possibility of reuniting with his parents.

Determined to make up for the cold treatments he gave his parents, he was also able to save them from the hit-and-run accident that killed them and turned him into a cold-hearted prosecutor.

It turns out that Tae-sub’s son is the culprit of his parents’ accident. Thankfully, with his help, his parents survive in his given new life.

Returning to law school, he meets his future acquaintances and new people he previously did not encounter.

Among those are Lee Min-soo (Jung Sang Hoon) and Kim Hee-ah (Kim Ji Eun). The latter he senses familiarity, but he can’t figure out where he previously encountered it.

Keen to fulfill the advice of the cryptic figure who sent him back to his past, Hee-woo sets his goal to ultimately eradicate the evil that is Cho Tae-sub.

Again My Life Opening Week Musings

Uniquely presenting an underdog story, it’s nice that Again My Life is not giving an unreasonably battered hero so far.

Hee-woo’s future knowledge would help him with his goal to end Cho Tae-sub for good. That’s probably how we want this story to end.

However, we don’t know yet if there are surprises to be thrown along the way with the deal he made with the death angel in red.

From the looks of it, he might be going to the “keep your friends close and enemies closer” route.

Saving his parents has also made Hee-woo more flexible. Something that his old self does not possess.

This will lead to him being more rational and careful with his looming showdown with the villain’s formidable shrewd ways.

Admittedly, some parts in the first episode felt familiar because it can’t be helped to remember Lee Joon Gi’s previous roles.

The novelty kicks in when he goes back to the past. With this, we expect his character growth different from the unsympathetic and recluse prosecutor we first met.

Again My Life

In the pipeline of Hee-woo’s plans are arduous tasks and uncertainties. Especially since we don’t know yet if he can obtain some power or backing to withstand the hurdles to be thrown by Cho Tae-sub.

What’s easily striking in the first two episodes are the character portrayals. Smart lead characters can never go wrong and Lee Joon Gi commits to it convincingly. Likewise, other characters are also syncing well with the story and the hero’s inevitable goal.

Additionally, the conflict has already set its trajectory. From there, the thrilling mission of the protagonist reels interest as to how he can accomplish it.

Again My Life airs every Friday and Saturday on SBS. International fans can watch it on Viu.
