See You In My 19th Life Opening Week Story
Exceptionally skilled, Ban Ji-eum credits her multi-maven nature to her ability to be reincarnated and remember those reincarnations.
After being reborn to her 19th life as Ban Ji-eum, young Ji-eum is left with no choice but to seek the help of his 17th life niece, Ae-gyeong so she can meet Moon Seo-ha.
Unfortunately, in her 18th life as Yoon Ju-won, she died protecting young Seo-ha with whom she had grown fond of.
Since then, he has become her reason to live in her 19th life. To meet him, she makes a plan to work at MI, the company that his family owns. But Seo-ha opted to defy his father to work at his mother’s hotel business, MI Grand Hotel.
Leaving the elite tech company she thought Seo-ha would go to after his training overseas, Ji-eum applies for a job at MI Grand Hotel.
During the interview, Seo-ha already planned on turning her down but had to proceed with the interview because of her superb portfolio.
Noticing his indecisiveness, Ji-eum switches strategy and proposes that he dates her instead. But of course, her preposterous idea surprises Seo-ha.
“In all the lives I’ve lived, I could only feel my pain. But not this life. The people I’ve left behind, I’m feeling their sadness for the first time – in this strange 19th life.”
Feeling dejected, Ji-eum finds relief in Makgeolli served by Ae-gyeong while they talk about her situation. Inspired by her niece’s encouraging words to push for what she’s been preparing for all her life.
Utilizing her brilliant mind, Ji-eum collates information to draft a plan to save MI Hotel. She gives it to Seo-ha and with a picture drawn from Seo-ha’s memory, he finally relents to her request to help him restore the hotel to its former glory.
Finally, he also recognized the 9-year-old Ji-eum who helped him when he caused trouble for neighborhood workers. His recent shared moments with Ji-eum spark his memories of young Ji-eum who asked him to marry her and promised to grow up beautiful and amazing for him.
Through reconnecting with Seo-ha, Ji-eum also meets her sister in her 18th life Cho-won who seems to be trying hard to connect with Seo-ha.
When Seo-ha needed a ride somewhere he wants to go, he remembers Ji-eums’ pledge to help him in any way she can. Driving him to a place, she discovers Seo-ha’s destination to be the place where her 18th life, Yoon Ju-won, rests in peace.
See You In My 19th Life Opening Week Musings
Whimsical and transfixing, See You In My 19th Life made its fantasy-romance premise alluring with certainty.
For its opening week, most of the credit should go to Shin Hye Sun (as well as her characters’ young reincarnations) for setting the mood right.
By representing a person who rediscovers the beauty of life because of a deeply-entrenched connection with someone, the series shapes up to focus on messages about nurturing connections.
In her 19th life, Ban Ji-eum is on a mission to realize her first love while continuing the healing process she initially promised.
As early as the first week of this drama, we can foresee the interesting approach to put the weight of the story on Ban Ji-eum. Aside from the emotions expected from her, she’s done a terrific job without overshadowing the worth of her male lead.
Adorning her amusing character neutralized the early raised tension of the narrative.
Interestingly, Ahn Bo Hyun’s indifferent relationship with his father and stepmother inclines toward the presumption that he would shoulder the bulk of expected drama in the series.
Can Seo-ha realize who Ji-eum really is? Can Ji-eum protect Seo-ha and continue their love promise from her 18th life?
Believe in true love, reincarnation and meaningful relationships in See You In My 19th Life! International fans can watch it on Netflix!
