Tomorrow Opening Week Story

After several unsuccessful job applications, a dejected Choi Jun-woong (Rowoon) finds himself unwittingly involved in one of the special missions of grim reapers Gu Ryun (Kim Hee Sun) and Lim Rung-gu (Yoon Ji On).

As a consequence of his interference, Jun-woong becomes half human and half spirit. Handing him two options, Jun-woong first choice is that he could remain in a coma for three years.

Then, the other is that he could work at Zuma-dong and wake up in six months with a few benefits as long as he chose to work as a temporary grim reaper himself.

Refusing to work at Zuma-dong initially, Jun-woong later changed his mind after the director showed him what would happen to him and his mother if he remained in a coma for 3 years.

“Suicide is the biggest mistake a human can make and a crime that should never be committed.”

During a meeting with the other teams at Zuma-dong, Gu Ryun listens to the others’ bickering about why someone like her became a part of the company at all.

She later argues with Park Joong-gil (Lee Soo Hyuk), claiming that their failure to save people in the living world is due to a lack of staff.

Declining to assist the Risk Management Team, Joong-gil considers it a waste of personnel because humans give opportunities to choose death over themselves.

Conversely, Gu Ryun underlines that the world has driven people to the precipice’s edge. She implores him not to trivialize their choices. And they make this of suicide attempts solely as a final plea for assistance from those who wish to live more than anybody else.

However, Joong-gil contends that suicide is identical to murder and is the worst mistake a human being can make, as well as a crime that should never be perpetrated.

Breaking the tension, Director Jade Hwang walks into the room, informing them that both Gu Ryung and Joong-gil are right. Nonetheless, they must collaborate because if the population declines, they will go out of business.

Giving Gu Ryun the last chance to save her team, Director Jade Hwang suggests that their mission must achieve success or the Risk Management Team will be permanently dissolved.

Afterward, Choi Jun-woong was assigned to Gu Ryun’s team, which was tasked with rescuing a despondent TV writer.

“Have you ever thought of overcoming it? They bully you because you’re so weak. And, because you don’t have the will or the bravery to fight.”

Finding the source of the TV writer’s high rate of unpleasant feelings, Gu Ryun instructs Rung-gu to obtain the key to her memory. As soon as she receives the key and Rung-gu clocks out, she is left alone with Jun-woong to enter her memory.

As a result of Jun-woong’s messing with the writer’s memory, Gu Ryun tries to escape and even runs into another issue when Jun-woong unintentionally breaks the key. Although they successfully exited the memory, they are no longer permitted to borrow the memory key.

With the TV writer’s continually increasing rate due to her high school bully keeping trampling on her life, Gu Ryun reveals herself to the writer.

Making her realize whether giving up on her life is the truth that she wants, Gu Ryun harshly throws the truth to the TV writer. And, when she is passionate about wanting to live, Gu Ryun saves her from falling into the tall building.

“Someone who will take their own life. Rescue the poor soul, who has forgotten what a gift life is.”

She consequently advises her that she did nothing wrong and that the bullies are to blame for subjecting her to unjustified suffering. Gu Ryun kept telling her not to give up and to carry on with her life.

As they make the TV writer’s feelings rate increase to 50 percent, with the help of Choi Jun-woong, they were able to save her life as the rate encompasses through 20 percent. It means that the TV writer is no longer concerned with taking away her own life anymore.

Recalling the period she was in hell, Gu Ryun was visited and invited by Director Jade Hwang. To be able to save the one she desires, she must work at Zuma-dong. Her mission is to save the unfortunate soul who has forgotten what a precious gift life is.

Tomorrow Opening Week Musings

Reeling into the story about grim reapers interfering with human lives, Tomorrow miraculously touches a wholesome notion for those given opportunities to appreciate the meaning of life.

For its first two episodes, the series also addresses how to deal with suicide-driven individuals. As Gu Ryun and Jun-woong demonstrate, one uses the harsh truth to make a person recognize her willingness to live, while the other employs a gentle approach to soften the person’s heart.

Furthermore, it is illuminating as we gain a better understanding of the Risk Management Team‘s purpose. And, how their work actually assists others in changing their minds and appreciating life’s gifts.

Apart from that, teamwork undoubtedly makes the missions work. As long as the whole team contributes or helps each other, it is indeed true that their goal of having a success rate in rescuing people’s lives will be accomplished.

Finally, as all bad actions come with their consequences, Gu Ryun exemplifies the concept of walking karma. She serves a justifiable punishment for the bullies who made the TV writer’s life miserable.
