Unlock My Boss Opening Week Story
Diligent in aspiring for his dream to come true, Park In-seong (Chae Jong Hyeop) hopes to make his parents proud.
However, his hard work seems not attuned to luck and opportunity that would land him a regular job. His latest failed work conquest is at a tech company Silverlining. But, as expected, he didn’t make the cut.
To make his situation worse, he has to move out of the room he is renting. Thus, he needs to find a new place and money to move in.
Visiting his parents, his father coaxes him to just help out at the family’s orchard. But In-seong insists on staying in Seoul despite his father’s disappointing words about his stubbornness.
Letting off the steam from arguing with his father, he goes to the nearby forest teeming with snakes.
Suddenly, he hears a voice from a cell phone and gets bitten by a snake. Waking up at a hospital’s ER, In-seong receives two phones. Later when the talking cellphone was recharged, the voice relays he is Kim Seon-ju (Park Sung Woong), CEO of Silver Lining who mysteriously gets trapped inside his phone.
Thinking he could be being pranked, his doubts disappear and he agrees to Seon-ju’s request to represent him as a CEO in exchange for money and a job at Silver Lining.
“I need more clues, but it’s not easy when you are inside a mobile phone.”
Proceeding with their deal, Seon-ju lets In-seong shop for his needs as a CEO on his behalf. He also made his parents happy by sending money needed for their orchard business.
Settling in a posh hotel room, Seon-ju briefs In-seong about what happened before he got trapped inside the phone. He is diligently investigating the cryptic event that led to it. Empathizing his situation, In-seong promises to help and even comforts the CEO by petting the mobile phone.
Thanks to the roles he played as a theater actor, In-seong transitioned to a CEO role and meets the employees of Silver Lining following Seon-ju’s lead. He also decides to keep Jung Se-yeon (Seo Eun Soo) as his secretary.
After work, In-seong obliges to a quick moment for Seon-ju to see his daughter. When Butler Shim goes out again, Seon-ju tells him to follow and sees him meet Se-yeon. Seon-ju hurriedly asks him to go to his house to retrieve important documents.
However, In-seong didn’t find any and he has to hide when the nanny and Butler Shim arrived.
Just then, he receives a text message on Kim Seon-ju’s phone asking for it to be returned.
Unlock My Boss Opening Week Musings
Humbly opening to a story of chasing dreams, Unlock My Boss has room to increase the hooking ingredient of its narrative. Despite having an interesting premise, the kickoff episodes did not have much flair and can be summarized easily.
Politics in a conglomerate company points to the unexpected fate that befell Seon-ju. The anticipated point to ponder is obviously how he got sucked inside his mobile phone. We can also add the possibility that he was kidnapped and he has a technology that enabled him to be one with his mobile phone.
Just the same, the focal point of the narrative is to discover who caused the strange incident and if he would be freed of that predicament.
Moving forward, marking Seon-ju’s allies and enemies will drive the hopefully exciting run of the series. It would be a pity if it won’t up the ante given the main cast is known to be reliable.
Follow In-seong’s journey in helping a trapped tech company CEO in Unlock My Boss. International fans can watch it on Prime Video.
