Deliver Us From Evil Plot Recap

In-Nam used to be a government agent, but after things went amiss in South Korea, he became a mercenary for hire. He was staying in Japan when he was tasked to kill Koreda (Kosuke Toyohara), A notorious thug and gang leader who killed many people, especially women. Tired of his life as an assassin on the run, he rejected the offer for another “one last job”.

He said that killing Koreda is the last mission he will accept because he plans to retire and look for a faraway country he can live in. Unfortunately, things did not go the way he intended to. Ray (Lee Jung Jae), the estranged blood brother of Koreda, came back to Japan to catch In-Nam for vengeance.

Subsequently, In-Nam receives news about his past lover trying to look for him. He refuses to talk to Seo Young-Joo (Choi Hee Soo) and hears about her death the following day. As a result, he flies to Bangkok, to get her remains, only to find out they had a child together. Apparently, she was trying to reach him because their 9-year-old daughter had been kidnapped.

In the midst of looking for their child, Yoo-min (Park So-Yi), In-Nam hires Yui (Park Jungmin). Yui is a Korean transgender person who migrated to Bangkok as his guide. The two set out to save Yoo-min. Unavoidably, they made enemies with Thai child traffickers and clashed with the menacing Ray as well.

Deliver Us From Evil Movie Musings

Deliver Us From Evil takes pride in its gripping action scenes and immersive camera work. Not only that, but it also exhibits cinematography that blended well with the splendid performances of the cast.

The storyline is fast-paced and teeming, with many highly graphic delivery of action scenes and violence. Hence, despite the speedy trajectory, the movie’s plot is very eventful. Indeed, the production design did not hold back in maximizing their budget to achieve such effects in the film.

Correspondingly, because the film was shot internationally, there were three primary settings for the storyline: South Korea, Japan and Thailand. It is noteworthy that the production team was able to give a natural and tension-filled vibe befitting the storyline.

They did not merely present a show set. The filming locations are impeccable, and the presence of the supporting characters and the extras enriched the scenes. The scenes shot in all three countries are superbly done and strategic.

However, it also holds true that the movie concept is not a surprising new element in films. Besides that, there is seemingly little character development present.

There was also not enough background for Ray’s character, so connecting or understanding him would be difficult. Nonetheless, the film provided spectacular transitions and tension-inducing fight scenes.
