Launched earlier, The Interest Of Love held an online press conference along with its director and lead stars.
The Interest of Love is a 16-episode series that streams two new episodes every Wednesday-Thursday on JTBC and Netflix. The premiere, which aired Wednesday, showed Ha Sang-soo (Yoo Yeon Seok) and Ahn Su-yeong (Moon Ga Young) showing feelings for each other, hoping to become more than just colleagues. The first episode immediately raised anticipation due to the leading characters’ bold ambitions.
The press conference for JTBC’s new drama was held on the same day. Director Jo Young Min, along with actors Yoo Yeon Seok, Moon Ga Young, Geum Sae Rok, and Jung Ga Ram, attended the event.
The Interest of Love is a melodrama that tells the story of people with different interests meeting and understanding the meaning of true love. It follows four people who work at a bank and the complicated and tangled relationships that force them to decide how far they will go for love.
The series, based on the novel of the same name by Lee Hyuk Jin, is directed by Jo Yeong Min (Do You Like Brahms?) and co-written by Lee Seo Hyun and Lee Hyuk Jung.
How The Interest Of Love Came To Life
Regarding The Interest Of Love, Director Jo Young Min expressed his hesitation to do another melodrama after directing Do You Like Brahms? However, he revealed that he was really interested when he received the script for the drama.
In addition, he mentioned that the show has the potential to resonate with its audience.
“The romance in this series was very different from my previous ones. I think it’s a tale many people can relate to.”
Yoo Yeon Seok’s Character Transformation
Famous for his leading roles in the romantic series, Yoo Yeon Seok stars in The Interest of Love. He portrays Ha Sang-soo, the chief of the general counseling division at KCU bank who firmly believes that love can’t be manipulated in any way and should remain constant under any conditions.
Concerning the difference between the original novel and the drama, the actor said:
“I have read the novel, but the most significant distinction is that in the novel, we had to pick and concentrate on picturing the images the readers may imagine while reading the text.”
He also added that although the series has its own interpretation of the novel, there are still a lot of similarities in the setting and relationship of the characters, which served as references for his character. The lines spoken in the drama were also as memorable as the words in the novel.
Moreover, when asked about the difference in the acting he has been doing previously and currently, Yoo Yeon Seok said:
“In my prior works, the romantic relationships were devoted or unrequited. This time, though, it is more realistic. This series features many problems and conflicts that anyone in the real world could face.”
Moon Ga Young Shows Her Other Side
Ahn u-yeong, portrayed by Moon Ga Young, is a manager at the KCU Bank. She believes that love is like a sandcastle that may crumble in an instant, regardless of the effort put into building it.
The actress commented on the allure of the drama compared to the original story and her statement raised expectations for the following episodes to come.
“I also enjoyed reading the novel, and the screenplay was just as entertaining. I believe it would be amusing to watch which of the novel’s storylines are discarded in the finale.”
Meanwhile, when asked how her portrayal of Ahn Soo Yeong would differ from her prior performances, she said:
“I suppose I will show you a different image than the one I showed you previously.”
She went on to say that she was relieved when fans commented “loose Moon Ga-young” on the teaser video and that the expression was not bad and looked very good for her character.
On-Screen and Off-Screen Chemistry of Moon Ga Young and Yoo Yeon Seok
Together, Yoo Yeon Seok and Moon Ga Young created a touching and understated relationship that depicts a genuine love connection between coworkers. In fact, Moon Ga Young even admitted that she relied on the actor throughout the series, raising hopes for their collaboration.
“The scenes and lines were frequently lengthy, and the emotions we had to portray were very delicate. However, there was this subtle understanding that we shared even without having to talk about it.”
Geum Sae Rok and Jung Ga Ram’s Insights On The Show
Geum Sae Rok plays the role of Park Mi Kyung, an assistant manager for the PB team at KCU Bank who thinks that love always warms you up like your body temperature. Meanwhile, Jung Ga Ram plays the role of Jeong Jong Hyeon, the bank’s security guard who thinks love is like a suffocating sense of debt.
Additionally, the actress stated that they made an effort to capture and portray a great deal of drama in the show as seen in the novel.
“It wasn’t the warm and fluffy sensation of love that struck me when I read the original piece, but rather a lot of anxieties about love that aren’t normally portrayed.”
Moreover, Jung Ga Ram also talks about how much he adores his work and why he chose The Interest of Love as his first project after getting out of the military.
“There are such good directors and actors, so I really wanted to try it together,” revealing his affection for the work.”
Moon Ga Young wrapped up the press conference by expressing her final greeting with a smile and invited the fans to watch the show and give it the same level of adoration and appreciation as they have.
The Interest Of Love airs two new episodes every week on Wednesdays and Thursdays on JTBC and Netflix.
