INTERVIEW: Byeon Woo Seok Recognizes His Confidence From His Recent Work On “Moonshine”

Triumphantly capturing the viewers’ hearts by depicting a handsome prince, Byeon Woo Seok expresses his impressions of Moonshine‘s amazing feat.

In the drama, Byeon Woo Seok depicts a tall, handsome prince who has brilliant martial arts skills. However, when he wanders to unwanted places outside the palace, he is quite the opposite of himself as Crown Prince Lee Pyo.

Furthermore, Byeon Woo Seok infused his character with more emotive acting than in his previous work. He remarkably captured the audience’s hearts with his irrepressible potential as an actor.

Likewise, his milestones in which he exhibited consistent acting abilities and a high synchronization rate with his roles have shone beautifully in the series.

As he created a lasting impression with his role as the Crown Prince, the actor addressed queries about his part in Moonshine directly.

His Thoughts on the Season’s Finale

When asked about his feelings regarding the drama’s conclusion, Byeon Woo Seok shares that it happened so quickly that he felt remorseful for a moment. But he is appreciative of his coworkers and the staff on the set.

“I thought that the 16th episode was not a short time, but since the broadcast started and the time seems to have gone by too quickly, I feel so regretful than I thought. While filming Moonshine, I was really happy to be with good people, and I was so happy to be able to play Lee Pyo. Thank you.”

In preparation for his role, the actor underwent a variety of mental alterations throughout the filming in order to accurately portray Lee Pyo.

“In the beginning of the play, I thought a lot about Lee Pyo’s wit and leisure, and in the middle part, Lee Pyo’s changes were made to express the seriousness of his thoughts in them and to express Lee Pyo’s emotions shaken after knowing the facts. I thought the feeling was the most important thing. As a result, we worked hard to focus on the tone and actions that come out of our emotions.”

Moreover, in conveying his view of the character Nam Young, he affirms that he is a friend who regards him as a family member with whom they could share everything together.

Byun Woo Seok’s Chemistry With His Coworkers

Relaying his sentiments for each character, Byeon Woo Seok speaks for Lee Pyo’s feelings both within and outside of his work with the drama’s actors.

“I was curious and liked it from the first meeting, and Nam Young didn’t like each other’s image at first, but he gradually developed a liking for him. As each romance has its own charm, I tried to express Lee Pyo’s mental change by carefully thinking through each scene and trying to guess more.”

Expressing his gratitude to the two actors who portrayed Nam Young and Ro Seo, Byun implies that they are both comfortable and considerate to work with. He consequently notes that Lee Hyeri emanates bright energy when filming.

On His Perception of the Revealed Truth in Moonshine

Correspondingly, the actor asserts that when Lee Pyo discovered the truth about his uncle Lee Si-heum, he was bewildered and filled with emotions.

“It was unbelievable, and the moment I found out the truth, I was overcome with emotions that cannot be accurately expressed in words, such as betrayal and fear.”

Envisioning if he can go on Mount Geumgang, Byeon Woo Seok pictures himself residing there.

“I think I will live happily taking care of the people around me while doing the things I want to do and things I have never done before.”

Recalling the most memorable lines from the drama, Byeon personally chooses the scene where Nam Young and Geum Joo-ryung have diametrically opposed viewpoints.

“The prohibition of alcohol is just an excuse. A good excuse to stop wasting rice. Do you know what Your Majesty is really trying to do? Forbidden. Power comes from what is forbidden. Do not drink alcohol. Slaves is to prevent the master from opposing the king. The servants are not allowed to confront the king. This means that all of these are one. Because public officials are the ones who can change the monarch if they have a cause.”

His Meaningful Message to the Viewers

Thinking of the kind of work that will remain for him in Moonshine, the actor emphasizes the drama gave him confidence and that it was a labor of love.

Finally, Byeon Woo Seok gives thanks to the viewers for their continued support since December. He also acknowledges sincere thanks for working with a diverse group of people, and for his role in the drama. He says that Lee Pyo is enjoying a very happy life on Mt. Geumgang.

“Thank you so much for being with us since December. I want to tell you through this interview that it was so good to be able to shoot with good people through Moonshine. Oh, and Lee Pyo went to Mt. Geumgang and is living a very, very happy life. Don’t worry (laughs). Thank you so much for watching Moonshine. See you soon with a better image in the next work.”
