Nam Da Reum Debuts As A Grown-Up Actor In “The 8th Night”, Shares Insights In His Latest Film

Nam Da Reum conveys his feelings working for the first time as an adult in Netflix’s movie, The 8th Night.

The actor plays young monk Chong Seok and one of the main characters of the film The 8th Night.

The 8th Night is the most recent Korean mystery-thriller film on Netflix. Upon its release, it receives a lot of positive reviews all over the world. Ranking first in Korea and the Philippines, it decks the second position in other Asian countries such as Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The film follows the story of the retired exorcist Park Jin Su (Lee Sung Min). Two thousand years ago, two beings were locked up to prevent harm to humans. Years later, the protector of the casket monk Ha-Jeong (Lee Eol), realizes it’s awakened. Ha-Jeong and the other monk Cheong Seok (Nam Da Reum) seek Park Jin Su to track and stop these beings from bringing havoc.

As one of the most successful child actors in Korea, The 8th Night is his first movie as an adult. It was challenging for him since it’s his first time.

“I think acting like an adult and child actor is not much different. However, there are more responsibilities and there’s a certain amount of pressure to do well now that I’m an adult.”

He also shares his goals as an actor and an adult. He expresses it through meaningful words

“I want to be a wonderful actor, but (also) I want to be a wonderful adult. I think a cool adult should not harm. I think that we should act by our beliefs that everyone thinks are universally right in words and action.”

Nam Da Reum was guided by his older co-stars throughout the shooting of the film. Especially Kim Yoo Jung and Lee Sung Min. It’s not the first time he and Lee Sung Min work together. Their first project together is tvN’s drama Memory in 2016. Since then, he always admires and looks up to him.

Another co-star who helps him is Kim Yoo Jung. According to him, he got a lot of advice from her. She is also a child star like him so they have a lot in common. He said

“Because I have been in the point of moving from child actor to adult actor, Kim Yoo Jung (noona), has been through it and help me through giving pieces of advice.”

He also shares an interesting TMI. According to him, Lee Sung Min takes a lot of photos of him sleeping on the set. He shares he always felt drowsy during shoots, so during break time he always slept. He adds that while working in the movie, he also has some exams going on in school too. That is why he felt tired and sleepy.

Luckily, the production team let him sleep because they knew how much hard work and dedication he’s been putting through his acting.

In conclusion, he gives an invitation as to why their movie is worth watching.

“Unlike, traditional horror films, it is very meaningful because it delivers the message that we wanted to convey to the audience, the philosophical part of Buddhism. I thought it was very cool because it contains a profound message, not simply, confrontation with evil.”

The 8th Night is now streaming exclusively on Netflix. It has been released in more than 190 countries in the past two days.
