The cast and creative team of Bulgasal: Immortal Souls communicate what to expect in the series at the drama presentation held earlier.
Bulgasal: Immortal Souls pivots around the story of a 600 years old Bulgasal who can’t kill nor die. He’s been searching for another Bulgasal who reincarnated and hides as a human.
Previously, Director Jang Young Woo shared insights about the series. At the press conference, he reiterates the emphasis of its richly written concept. He adds spending time and effort into the pre-production phase.
Director Jang also explains the early comparison raised about Bulgasal to the formerly-released series, Goblin.
“I have worked with director Lee Eung Bok and writer Kim Eun Hee of Goblin, and they are people I personally respect. It’s an honor to be compared with them. The setting is based on Korean folk tales. Another aspect is that there are many anti-war narratives behind it. If Goblin is melodramatic, Bulgasal focuses on the relationship as a family. I hope you enjoy watching the changes.”
Four characters are entangled in a 600-year old narrative featuring Bulgasal: The Immortal Souls. First, Dan-hwal (Lee Jin Wook), who became immortal. He is in pursuit of Min Sang-woon (Kwon Na-ra), a person who has been hiding as a human through reincarnation.
Then, Ok Eul-tae (Lee Joon), a wealthy man under a veil, and Dansol (Gong Seung-yeon) complete the powerhouse cast of the series. Dan-hwal and Min Sang-woon in the play have a relationship of being chased and pursued. They have hated each other for hundreds of years.
A Charming Story Fused With Korean-Style Fantasy
Revealing his insights about his latest project, Lee Jin Wook expressed tackling a fresh story. He alludes his character to a clock that stopped and a compass that lost its direction.
“It is new and deals with Korean-style fantasy. The role of Dan-hwal is different from the existing immortal characters. Living for 600 years, he was supposed to get used to living. But he is a character full of sentiments.”
Meanwhile, Kwon Nara described her character to have suffered pain when she was young. Despite her situation, she does not hesitate and lives independently with courage and hope.
“I felt attractive because it is a character like a bright light that illuminates in the dark. I thought I would like to try it.”
Expressing his attraction to his character and the script, Lee Joon conveys his thoughts about the series.
“I saw the script and felt charmed right away. I thought it would be fun because it was a character I had never played before.”
Likewise, Gong Seung Yeon who plays the role of Park Myung-shin, relays being drawn to the script.
“I also thought that I wanted to do it after seeing the script. I was curious about how the entangled relationships would be resolved, so I chose this work. It was a great challenge for me as well. It was a character with unexpected charm. Please look forward to this.”
