“Captivating The King” Foretells Heart-Pounding Melodrama Starring Jo Jung Suk and Shin Se Kyung

Captivating The King

As thrilling as the game of baduk, the lead pair of Captivating the King are seen contemplative while moving their stones.

Captivating the King chronicles the cruel fate of King Lee In who is high-ranking but despondent, and Kang Hee-soo who dreamed of revenge but fell in love with him.

Director Jo Nam-kuk, who was recognized for his solid directing skills through dramas such as The Good Detective and The Untouchables, and writer Kim Seon-deok, who started the legend of a well-made historical drama for tvN with The Crowned Clown collaborated for the series.

Jo Jung Suk plays the role of Lee In, an infinitely strong but pathetic man and king. He was taken hostage by the Qing Dynasty, promising to live faithfully as a subject of his older brother Lee Seon, who cared for him, but soon his loyalty was seen as treason, and even his older brother came to hate him. The moment he was in pain, he met an ‘unknown baduk player’ and his heart was completely stolen.

Shin Se Kyung plays the role of Kang Hee-soo, a woman who penetrates the king’s heart and dreams of revenge. While Kang Hee-su was gaining fame as an ‘unknown baduk player’, he met Prince Jinhan’s and helplessly fell in love with him. However, she became entangled in the whirlpool of fate and was transformed into a spy.

King Yi-in and Kang Hee-soo’s Game of Baduk

The new tvN series released its poster along with its first broadcast confirmation on January 21.

Curiosity grows about the narrative of King Yi-in and Kang Hee-soo’s fateful encounter along with the shape of their hands carefully reaching out to each other while playing Baduk.

In particular, the distance between the two hands, which seem almost like they are not touching stimulates excitement. The complex emotions of Jo Jung Suk and Shin Se Kyung, who go back and forth between attraction and wariness are brought to life in detail.

Even while King Yi-in is contemplating while holding the game of baduk, his gaze is focused solely on Kang Hee-soo. The latter is immersed in the game of baduk for revenge and intently looks at her fingertips.

The texts on the poster say: “the one who messed up the world” and “the one who messed up the heart” which makes viewers even more curious about the direction of their romance along with the relationship that the two will form in the future.

tvN’s new Saturday-Sunday drama Captivating the King will premiere on January 21 and air episodes 1 and 2 consecutively.
