Director Lee Soo-hyun reveals the casting process for the two lead stars.
Proving to be the freshest and most interesting casting combination in 2023, the main leads of Delightfully Deceitful continuously impress the viewers with their interaction as an over-empathetic lawyer and emotionless swindler.
Director Lee takes pride in his female lead Chun Woo Hee who captivates the viewers with her colorful transformations incorporating her fraudster skills in every episode.
“The character Lee Ro-woom has to change according to the person who cheats, and not only the clothes, hair, and makeup, but also the tone of the dialogue, pronunciation, intonation, and facial expression. Surprisingly, Chun Woo Hee easily navigates these vivid character changes. She perfectly assimilated all these parts, and it was thrilling to intuitively see such a transformed figure.”
Regarding Kim Dong Wook, whom he worked with again after the drama Find Me in Your Memory, Director Lee lauds his superb characterization. He also deems that he was an important casting decision for Han Moo-young.
“He has this excellent ability to analyze the script. So, I thought Kim Dong Wook’s acting was really perfect down to the details. Han Moo-young in the play is particularly complex and difficult. He has a somewhat unfamiliar disease called hyper-empathy syndrome, but his appearance had to be well-designed so that Moo-young’s behavior won’t look confused or unconvincing. That’s why I couldn’t come up with an actor who could express Moo-young with a detailed design like Kim Dong Wook. If it were not for Kim Dong-wook’s detailed design, Han Moo-young’s story and his emotions would not have been clearly conveyed.“
Expounding interest in the fascinating pairing of his latest work, Director Lee remarked how Chun Woo Hee and Kim Dong Wook have more in common with each other’s characters than their roles.”
“Chun Woo Hee shows an emotional explosion through emotional and momentary immersion, while Kim Dong Wook is an actor who embodies a character through rational and careful character analysis and design. So he quips how it seemed easier to understand each other’s characters.”
