JTBC’s new romantic comedy, Doctor Slump, also confirms Yoon Park and Kong Seong Ha as the main leads.
Doctor Slump threads on the story of two rivals who were reunited in the darkest period of their lives. In the process, they become each other’s light bringing excitement, laughter, and warm solace.
In charge of the production is Director Oh Hyun Jong (The One and Only, Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo) and Writer Baek Sun Woo of My Roommate Is A Gumiho and Ugly Young Ae fame.
Reuniting Park Hyung Sik and Park Shin Hye after 10 years since The Heirs, the series promises delightful synergy.
Meet The Lead Cast of Doctor Slump
Portraying the role of Yeo Jung-woo, a star plastic surgeon who falls into the worst slump of his life is Park Hyung Sik. From his school days, he always took the first place. He becomes the “star doctor” from the best medical school in Korea with his skills and character. However, a cryptic medical accident altered his ideal life.
Working on rom-com after a couple of thrilling dramas, Park Hyung Sik looks forward to his new transformation.
“It’s been a long time since I’ve been in a romantic comedy, so I’m nervous and excited. It’s been a while since I met actress Park Shin-hye again and I’m looking forward to it. I think it will be a more interesting work because of the director and writer. I am happy to be able to give laughter and emotion to the viewers. I sincerely ask for your interest, love, and support.”
Returning for her first small-screen project since Sisyphus: The Myth; Park Shin Hye plays the character Nam Ha-neul, an anesthesiologist suffering from burnout syndrome.
Ha-neul, who was called a genius since she was born, became crazy about her studies with her brilliant brain and fierce efforts. Even after she achieved her career as a doctor, she became an adult who was crazy about her work. One day, she suddenly looks back on her own life, which has been ruined and vows to change her life.
Resonating with her character, Park Shin Hye promises a work that would heal people.
“It seems that everyone encounters a slump in life. I tend to worry a lot about how to overcome that moment wisely and live a healthy life, so I sympathized with the character Nam Ha-neul. I felt a sense of identity in the situations she faced. I think my heart went out more. I will work hard on filming so that I can convey comfort to many people who are tired of life.”
Meanwhile, Yoon Park (Forecasting Love and Weather) suits up to the role of Bin Dae-yeong, a plastic surgeon who loves to bluff. He is full of bravado and has a lot of pride, but he can never be hated.
Known for his efficient and unique characterizations, Yoon Park foreshadows going back and forth between seriousness and cleverness.
“I’m very excited to meet a good director and actors through the work. I will prepare well to make a pleasant drama. I hope that the drama will end well without any major accidents until the end.”
Lastly, rookie actress Kong Seong Ha who received attention for her work in Through The Darkness takes the role of Lee Hong-ran, an obstetrician and gynecologist and best friend of Ha-neul. She is also set to get involved with Dae-young.
“I am grateful and I feel a sense of responsibility for being entrusted with the role of Lee Hong-ran. I want to put all my heart into creating good work with precious relationships with Hong-ran’s bright energy.”
Foretelling a special romance that blooms between two people who reached an exhausting phase of their lives, Doctor Slump gears up for its launch in the second half of 2023.
