Extraordinary Attorney Woo continues to top viewership charts on Netflix!
Writer Moon Ji Won and some of the cast of the series shared their thoughts on the series and its newfound global popularity. For two consecutive weeks, the series is on the top spot in the non-English TV category. It ranks 1st in 8 countries as well as in the top 10 list for 22 countries.
An official from Netflix recognized the special healing gift of the series.
“Netflix captured the feel-good healing powers of Extraordinary Attorney Woo from the beginning stages of its production and decided to invest early on. I think it’s meaningful that it led to a virtuous cycle of helping not only the broadcasting company but also the creative industry.”
In a recent interview writer, Moo Ji Won shared his thoughts about the series when asked what sets apart Extraordinary Attorney Woo from other law-themed series?
“What makes Extraordinary Attorney Woo so different is the character, Woo Young-woo. Once she takes on a case, it takes a turn that viewers could not have seen anywhere else before!”
Moreover, Park Eun Bin shared her preparation for becoming Attorney Woo Young-woo.
“I focused on Youngwoo’s sincere heart. I thought I might limit the possibilities of Woo Youngwoo if I took a careful or defensive stance, so I tried to take in as many different approaches as possible. In particular, I didn’t want to limit Youngwoo’s character, so I was really open to all possible options in expressing Youngwoo’s heart freely. Since she is such a spirited and courageous person, I learned a lot from her character.”
Furthermore, since the series show premiered in the first week of July, it has been the most-watched drama on ENA and has ranked in the top ten on Netflix Global (non-English category). Park Eun Bin shared how she felt about the show’s success.
“I was able to complete filming with the support of many people. I’m glad that I was able to complete filming. I am truly grateful for global viewers who explore Young-woo’s world with us. Welcome to “the world of Woo Young-woo”! Please remember to stay tuned until the very end!”
A Happy Cast Yields Happy Ratings
As the charming male lead of the series, Kang Tae Oh shared the challenge of preparing for his role.
“My character Lee Junho is a more reactive character than a proactive one, and has a lot of emotions expressed through his eyes or facial expressions. I wanted to convey his emotions appropriately – not too much nor too little – and I think this took a lot of discussions with the director on set.”
He also expressed what he felt about the show’s success.
“I’m honored and touched that Extraordinary Attorney Woo is loved not just in Korea, but also overseas as well! Please continue to watch until the final episode 16. Thank you to all for your love and support for us. Please stay tuned!”
Kang Ki Young also shared his experience when asked, what was the most challenging part when he prepared for his role?
“Hello, I’m Kang Ki Young and I play the role of Jung Myeongseok on Extraordinary Attorney Woo. I was most worried about whether I could seem the part of a seasoned senior attorney with 14 years’ experience before I got to setting my character. Also, I think one of the biggest challenges was that I had to familiarize myself with legal knowledge or jargon and convey it as a professional.”
He also highlighted his admiration for the hard work of Park Eun Bin.
“But my concerns were nothing compared to actor Park Eun Bin, who had to memorize pages and pages of information on whales, legal jargon and even regular speech that seems to be straight out of an encyclopedia. (laughs) I am truly grateful to our Lawfirm Hanbada team to help me look the part of an excellent senior lawyer!”
Finally, he also expressed his feelings about the show’s success.
“Hello viewers and fans! This is Jeong Myeongseok, and I’m truly grateful for your love and support these days! I’m moved and glad that this drama can warm your hearts, especially since you might be worn out from these trying times. Extraordinary Attorney Woo has now aired almost halfway! Please stay tuned until the end, since there’s a lot of entertainment coming your way! Thank you all so much! Stay safe! ❤️”
