Hold onto your hearts, because the exquisitely poignant melodrama, Heavenly Ever After, starring Son Suk Ku is about to grace our screens!
Son Suk Ku is back with a role that’s bound to capture hearts once again in Heavenly Ever After.
JTBC’s upcoming weekend drama More Beautiful Than Heaven (directed by Kim Seok-yoon, written by Lee Nam-gyu and Kim Soo-jin, produced by Studio Phoenix and SLL) unveiled a new still of Son Seok-gu on the 3rd, hinting at the rise of yet another unforgettable character following the sensation of Mr. Goo from My Liberation Notes.
This fantasy-infused romantic comedy begins where life ends. Lee Hae-sook (played by the legendary Kim Hye-ja) passes away in her 80s and ascends to heaven, only to be reunited with her now youthful husband, Go Nak-jun (Son Suk Ku), who appears to be in his 30s. What unfolds is a warm, emotionally rich story about love, laughter, and second chances in the afterlife.
The dream team of director Kim Seok-yoon and writers Lee Nam-gyu and Kim Soo-jin — known for hits like The Light in Your Eyes, Awl, and Hip-hop King — reunites for this project. Add in a stellar cast including Kim Hye-ja, Son Seok-gu, Han Ji-min, Lee Jung-eun, Chun Ho-jin, and Ryu Deok-hwan, and anticipation is already sky-high.
Of particular note is the heart-tugging pairing of Kim Hye Ja and Son Suk Ku as a couple who find each other again in the afterlife. This marks Son’s first reunion with director Kim Seok-yoon since My Liberation Notes, and fans are eager to see his transformation in the role of Go Nak-jun — a gentle, devoted husband and heaven’s own postman. With a blend of romance, comedy, and poignancy, this role promises to showcase his full acting range.
The newly released stills reveal the cozy, dreamlike home Nak-jun built in heaven while waiting for Hae-sook — a home filled with love, care, and hopeful anticipation. Despite its otherworldly setting, the space feels warmly familiar, a reflection of the drama’s unique blend of fantasy and relatable humanity. Nak-jun’s smile, full of peace and love, gives us a glimpse into the joyful second life awaiting him and his wife.
Another image captures Go Nak-jun mid-journey on his heavenly commute to Earth, carrying out his duties as a celestial postman. His job? Delivering heartfelt “letters of wishes” from heaven to earth — a role that connects the living and the departed, and promises deeply touching encounters.
Speaking on his decision to join the cast, Son Suk Ku shared, “I have immense trust in Director Kim Seok-yoon thanks to our bond from My Liberation Notes. And the chance to share the screen with Kim Hye-ja in a romance? That sealed it.”
He added, “Nak-jun is someone who lives and breathes for Hae-sook. Everything he does is out of love for her.”
As for the show’s take on the afterlife, Seok-gu explained, “The heaven in this drama isn’t some distant, lofty place. It’s painted with ordinary imagination — a world you and I can easily relate to. But at its core, this story searches for something even more beautiful than heaven itself.”
Heavenly Ever After premieres on April 19 at 10:40 PM (KST) on JTBC. Get ready to laugh, cry, and fall in love all over again — in this life, and the next.
