High Class female lead Cho Yeo Jeong shared insights in the recent press event together with fellow cast members Kim Ji Soo, Ha Jun, Park Se Jin, Gong Hyun Joo and Director Choi Byung Gil.
iQiyi’s suspense thriller, High Class, highlights the ideal lives of women in the top 0.1% of social strata, as well as concealed lies and hypocrisy.
Cho Yeo Jeong plays a lawyer mother who enrolls her child in an international school.
Her long hair was cut to complement her powerful and stout character. She also made an effort to develop a friendship with child actor Jang Seon Yul, who played her 8-year-old son.
“The short hairstyle was ‘perfect’ to create the image of Song Yeo-ul that was lingering in her mind. I’m happy because she’s a figure I’ve never seen before. At least once, I wanted to try such a radical transformation for the sake of my work. Hahaha! Even after filming was over, Sunyul and I were together within an hour. Because her child is so lovely, the ‘chemistry’ is well contained, so I have less of a worry.”
Cho notes that she was hesitant about the haircut, but sought advice from her stylist in order to convey a more assertive look for Song Yeo-ul.
“When I was troubled about how to present the character, stylists suggested a haircut. The image of Song Yeo-ul immediately popped out in my mind. I have been thinking about getting haircuts for a role, so I really enjoy the new look.“
Female Power Portrayals in High Class
Kim Ji Soo also explains her role as she portrays Nam Ji-seon, the international school’s true power. She constantly contends with and confronts Cho Yeo-jeong.
“As a villain. She seems to own everything but is hollow and empty inside.”
She’s giddy with excitement and joy at the prospect of finally working with the lauded actress. Cho also recounts episodes of confrontation with Kim.
“We didn’t need to discuss much beforehand. She knew how to lead the process and deliver a great argument scene.”
Meanwhile, Park Se-jin portrays Hwang Na-yoon, the J&Y gallery’s representative and a young mother, in this series.
Park was asked about her representation of a 25-year-old mother.
“It was exciting initially to receive the script, but I was anxious about how to express motherly love on camera.”
Later, she sought assistance from her mother and introduced the role to her.
“I’ve never talked about scripts with my family. However, I asked mom a lot of questions to assess more how I can interpret Na-yoon’s character.”
High Class will begin on the iQiyi app and iQ.com on September 7th, with new episodes available at 12:00 noon on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
