Kim Nam Gil, Cha Eun Woo, Lee Da Hee and Sung Joon are in uncanny connection in Island.
Slated for a December premiere, Island traverses the journey of the characters who are destined to fight against the “evil” that is trying to destroy the world.
The series is based on the webtoon of the same name by writers Yoon In-wan and Yang Kyung-il. Notably, the fantasy-action to be highlighted in the drama is set to unfold in the background of Jeju Island, which brims with folk tales.
Ahead of the premiere, the main poster and trailer were released hyping the viewers’ interest. Specifically, the poster displays the lead stars in their respective characters.
In the trailer released, Ban (Kim Nam Gil) who has appeared beyond time and space, snatches the geumgangjeo flying toward him.
For a moment, the peaceful appearance of Jeju in the distant past is chronicled by Geum Baek-joo (Go Doo-shim). She narrates: “The demons of the world are caught on Jeju Island and were blocked.”
Yo-han (Cha Eun Woo), an exorcist who came to Jeju believing it was God’s calling, implies that the only savior who will prevent the destruction revealed in the prophecy has appeared.
At that moment, Won Mi-ho (Lee Da Hee), who arrived at Jeju Airport, senses a strange aura and is soon chased by jeongyeomgwi.
Appearing in the following scene, Ban subdues jeongyeomgwi at once and protects her. Yohan also confronts the evil spirits with determined eyes, saying that it is his choice to protect Won Mi-ho. Surrounded by jeongyeomgwi, Won Mi-ho begins to question the existence of evil trying to harm her.
Ban, who has been hanging around Won Mi-ho, foretells an unusual relationship between the two by asking a meaningful question, “You really don’t remember anything?”
On the other hand, Won Mi-ho, who is wearing white clothes with a bright smile, and the past create an atmosphere that is the opposite of the front line.
Then, the gray-haired Gung-tan (Sung Joon) showed a strong presence by saying, “It’s been a while, my brother,” as if he had been waiting for that day. At the same time, Ban attacks Gung-tan without any hesitation, suggesting that their cruel fate has begun again.
The main trailer, which has reached its climax, presents extreme suspense as the intertwined stories of Ban, Won Mi-ho, Yo-han, and Gung-tan quickly intersect.
It is a point to watch what kind of fate those who are trapped in an inescapable bondage will meet. Something that Ban foretells: “It is a destiny that has been determined since birth and it is an unbroken previous life’s karma.”
Island will be released for the first time on TVing on December 30. International fans can watch it on Prime Video.
