tvN’s upcoming drama Jeongnyeon The Star is Born is set to transport viewers back to the post-Korean War era, where the world of women’s gugak was thriving.
The series follows the inspiring journey of Yoon Jeong-nyeon, a young woman with a dream of becoming a gugak star.
Joining the talented cast is Shin Ye Eun, who will take on the role of Heo Yeong-seo, an elite member of the Maeran Theater Troupe. Renowned for her exceptional skills in singing, dancing, and acting, Yeong-seo is a proud and determined character with a prestigious family background.
To step out of the shadow of her famous soprano mother and sister, Yeong-seo abandoned singing to focus on acting. After years of hard work, she becomes the top talent among the Maeran Theater Troupe’s trainees. Her character is portrayed as proud and aloof, akin to an ice princess.
In the newly released stills, Shin Ye Eun fully embodies the role of Yeong-seo, heightening expectations for her performance. The images show her in practice attire, deeply engaged in training sessions, including singing and mokgeomsul—a traditional Korean musical technique. Her confidence and strong skills, despite being a trainee, radiate charisma, making her a compelling ‘next national music star.’
As the drama unfolds, viewers can expect to witness a fierce rivalry between Yeong-seo and Jeong-nyeon. While Jeong-nyeon possesses a natural talent for gugak, Yeong-seo has honed her skills through years of hard work and dedication. Their contrasting approaches to achieving their goals will undoubtedly create a captivating dynamic.
Director Jung Ji-in, who directed Jeongnyeon, praised Shin Ye Eun’s performance, stating, “Yeong-seo is an elite of the Maeran Gukgeuk Troupe that no one can approach, but I tried to portray her gradual change after meeting Jeongnyeon in a well-directed way.“
Jeongnyeon The Star is Born is set to premiere on October 12, promising audiences a heartwarming and inspiring tale of friendship, rivalry, and the pursuit of dreams.
