“Jeongnyeon The Star is Born” Drops Teasers, Confirms October Premiere

tvN’s upcoming weekend drama Jeongnyeon The Star is Born has revealed its first two posters, set against the evocative backdrop of a national theater troupe.

Jeongnyeon The Star is Born is a drama that explores the fierce competition, solidarity, and vibrant growth of Jeongnyeon, a naturally gifted vocalist striving to become the top gugak performer in the 1950s, a time marked by both poverty and romance.

Based on a popular Naver webtoon by Seo I-re and Namon, the drama garnered significant attention for its unique focus on women’s gugak, a genre that gained immense popularity during the Korean War era, where all roles are performed by women. The story follows Jeongnyeon’s journey as she overcomes her limitations to rise as a star in a gugak troupe.

The drama boasts an impressive team, with Jung Ji-in, the award-winning director of The Red Sleeve, at the helm, and a stellar cast featuring Kim Tae Ri, who was the muse for the original work, alongside Shin Ye Eun, Ra Mi Ran, Jung Eun Chae, Kim Yoon Hye, and a special appearance by Moon Sori. This all-star lineup has made Jeongnyeon The Star is Born one of the most anticipated dramas of the second half of the year.

The two posters, released on the 21st, heighten expectations as they showcase the main stage of the drama—the traditional Korean theater. The posters prominently feature the five-member troupe performing at the prestigious “Maeran Women’s Traditional Korean Theater,” the leading theater company of the time.

In the first poster, Kim Tae Ri perfectly embodies Yoon Jeong-nyeon, a vocal prodigy who travels alone from Mokpo to Seoul to pursue her dream of becoming a national theater actor. Her eyes, filled with talent and determination, are sure to captivate viewers.

Shin Ye Eun portrays Heo Yeong-seo, a multi-talented performer with a sharp gaze, hinting at the intense rivalry with Kim’s character.

Ra Mi Ran, as Kang So-bok, the formidable leader of the Maeran National Theater Troupe, exudes charisma, while Jung Eun Chae suits up as the troupe’s prince, Moon Ok-kyung, and Kim Yoon Hye as the princess, Seo Hye-rang, radiate star power with their striking appearances.

The second poster shows Kim Tae Ri’s character gazing up at the national theater’s signboard with admiration, set against a charming 1950s street. The signboard highlights Jeong-nyeon as the star of the national theater troupe, raising anticipation for the dream stage that the series will depict, as well as the revival of the women’s national theater era across the century.

The production team stated, “We have put our heart and soul into capturing the allure of women’s national theater from the 1950s. With passionate performances from actors like Kim Tae-ri, Shin Ye-eun, Ra Mi-ran, Jung Eun-chae, and Kim Yoon-hye, paired with director Jung Ji-in’s visionary directing, we are confident that the drama will excel in acting, direction, and storytelling. Please look forward to it.

tvN’s new Saturday-Sunday drama Jeongnyeon The Star is Born set to stir viewers’ hearts, is scheduled to premiere on Saturday, October 12, at 9:20 p.m.
