Namgoong Min leads a special police crime unit on a mission to unearth the connection of baffling cases in Awaken!
tvN’s new crime series introduced an interesting police officer confronted with bizarre array of forewarned murder cases. He is joined by a formidable US-based profiler plus two energetic junior police officers all vying to decipher the given task.

Awaken Opening Week Story
A streak of puzzling crimes caused chaos to the police team spearheaded by Do Jung-woo (Namgoong Min). Alarming the public, the pressure is high to close the case, and special profiler Jamie Leighton (Lee Chung Ah) was even summoned from the US to work on the case.
What’s perplexing is that each of the killings is tipped off in cryptic code requiring skilled deciphering. Adding to the police problem is that the media through Lee Ji Wook’s investigative show – broadcast the killings with utmost coverage.
Awaken Opening Week Peak Points + Musings
It took a while for Awaken to pique my interest while watching its premiere episodes. I think it was midway through episode 2 that I finally settle to its story. Dialogue-heavy, while the premise looks inviting, there’s something amiss to its narrative.
However, given my experience with The Good Detective and how crime dramas tend to go for a slow start; I would still include this series in my coverage. Also because Namgoong Min rarely picks a bad drama.
Evidently, the police probing links back to the stories of its lead cast to the tragedy shown in the opening sequence of the series. The villain, hiding in shadows, adds intrigue as to what his motivations are. Accordingly, the featured killings of wicked people as if tranced by something leave a lot of room for the story to evolve on.
Setting up an overview of its big picture, I’m not sure if Awaken will feature side crime stories along the way. Obviously, viewers need to know the answers first on the elaborated killing streak introduced on its first two chapters.
Awaken airs on tvN every Monday and Tuesday. International fans can watch it on iQIYI.
