The veil has finally been lifted on TVING’s highly anticipated original series Dear X, which has officially confirmed its release date for November 6 alongside a striking launch poster that offers a chilling glimpse into its dark, twisted world.
Dear X follows the story of Baek Ah-jin (played by Kim Yoo-jung), a woman who hides her ruthless true nature behind the mask of a perfect top star. To escape the hell she once endured, she manipulates, deceives, and climbs her way to the top—leaving behind a trail of “Xs,” the people she has destroyed along the way. The series unfolds as a melo-suspense drama, chronicling the inevitable downfall of Baek Ah-jin and the desperate love of Yoon Jun-seo (played by Kim Young-dae), a man who willingly descends into hell for her sake.
The series is already drawing immense buzz for its powerhouse creative lineup. It marks the first collaboration between hitmaker director Lee Eung-bok—known for monumental works like Sweet Home, Goblin, Mr. Sunshine, and Descendants of the Sun—and TVING, promising a production of cinematic scale. He is joined by director Park So-hyun, known for her sharp and delicate visual storytelling. The screenplay is co-written by Choi Ja-won, the 2018 KBS One-Act Drama Script Contest grand prize winner, and Ban Ji-woon, the author of the globally popular original webtoon.
Adding to the excitement, Dear X features a star-studded cast including Kim Yoo Jung, Kim Young Dae, Kim Do Hoon, and Lee Yeol Eum—a lineup that has already amplified anticipation among drama fans. The series’ prestige was further solidified when it was officially invited to the “On Screen” section of the 30th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), highlighting its cinematic quality and international appeal.
The newly revealed launch poster immediately captures attention with its intense symbolism. On a sheet of pure white paper, the title Dear X is scrawled in vivid red, evoking both passion and blood. Through a torn slit in the page, Baek Ah-jin’s cold, piercing eyes stare back at the viewer, hinting at the duality of a woman who perfectly hides her inner chaos while seeing straight into the hearts of others. The imagery powerfully encapsulates the drama’s theme of deception, obsession, and emotional ruin.
Kim Yoo-jung’s drastic transformation for this role is already the talk of the town. In the previously released teaser, she captivated audiences with her chilling portrayal—earning praise for “changing everything from her gaze to her voice.” As Baek Ah-jin, Kim embodies a woman who wears a mask of perfection to conceal a lifetime of scars, manipulating others with precision while standing on the razor’s edge of fame and collapse. Viewers are eager to see how Kim Yoo-jung will portray the seductive yet self-destructive allure of a woman consumed by her own ambition.
Featuring an intense storyline, cinematic production, and Kim Yoo-jung’s career-defining performance, Dear X is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about K-dramas of the year.
