Poised to create another memorable character, Lee Je Hoon returns to the youth of a well-loved fictional detective.
Chief Detective 1958 is a prequel to Chief Inspector Park, an iconic Korean investigative drama. It is set 10 years earlier and will cover the younger days of detective Park Young-han, Korea’s representative fictional detective who received full support and love from viewers.
Moreover, it threads on how detective Park Young-han and three unique colleagues stand up to ugly crimes and become detectives for the people in the era of atrocity.
It is expected to be a dynamic story of Detective Park Young-han, who specializes in apprehending petty thieves in a barbaric era, as he teams up with colleagues to break the absurdities of corrupt power with common sense and become a detective for the people.
In an era in which crimes were solved solely with innate sense, insight, and tenacity, without profiling or the usual CCTV, it is expected to feature retro crime investigation drama, incorporating romance and joy of analog investigation.
This will provide a unique experience to the younger generation and a different kind of fun and emotion to the generation that remembers the activities of Chief Inspector Park.
The character teaser photos of young Park Young-han released on this day depicts his transformation from a ‘hillbilly detective’ who ruled the nether regions of his hometown to a ‘unique detective’ at the Jongnam Police Station in Seoul.
Park Young-han’s eyes as he leaves the Hwangcheon branch carrying a large luggage bag clearly contain his passion and ambition for his dream of achieving good fortune. Setting foot in the big, unfamiliar, new world of Seoul, also raises curiosity.
Even though he wears a suit that fits his body and smiles brightly like a child, while interrogating a villain in the investigation team, Park Young-han’s masculine beauty and charisma make viewers fall in love with his charms.
Conveying his reason to accept his latest role, Lee Je Hoon is honored and grateful for the opportunity.
“I had the greatest curiosity and anticipation about the prequel to Chief Detective 1958. It was an honor to be there. I thought people who remember Chief Park would like it if it tells the story of how Detective Park Young-han and the investigation team met, and how people of that era viewed the world and lived.”
He also gave a glimpse of his character.
“Park Young-han is very pure, and his passion and tenacity to catch the criminal come from his strong and warm heart that no one can match. It may seem simple and reckless to some, but to me, the fact that they did not spare their own bodies seemed amazing and also admirable. If there were more detectives like this in real life, we could live in a more worry-free world. The very existence of a police officer I thought will be a source of comfort and strength.”
Chief Detective 1958 premieres at 9:50 pm on Friday, April 19. International fans can watch it on Disney+!
