With a blend of comedy, romance, and drama, the show explores the intricate dynamics of their relationships, both old and new. As childhood friends reunite and confront life’s challenges together, the series is poised to become a beloved addition to the Korean drama landscape.
Accordingly, the production team recently released a group poster highlighting the vibrant chemistry among the four lead characters.
The group poster shows the four characters—Choi Seung-hyo, Bae Seok-ryu, Jeong Mo-eum, and Kang Dan-ho—walking together in a cozy neighborhood, emphasizing the warmth and camaraderie of their friendship. The storyline revolves around their interconnected lives in Hye-reung-dong, with each character bringing something unique to the group.
Jung Hae In’s First Romantic Comedy
Jung Hae In, in his first romantic comedy role, plays Choi Seung-hyo, a highly regarded architect whose life is disrupted by the return of his hometown friend.
In the released character teasers, Choi Seung-hyo stands out in his impeccable suit, showcasing his polished look and professional success. His past is also highlighted, revealing his time as a promising swimmer selected for the national team, leaving viewers curious about why he abandoned that dream to pursue a different path.
The actor shared his reasons for choosing Love Next Door, citing the fun script and his admiration for director Yoo Je-won’s work, as well as his desire to collaborate with actress Jung So Min. He described Choi Seung-hyo as a strong-willed character with a tough exterior but a soft heart, noting that he naturally immersed himself in the role. He also expressed both excitement and nervousness about tackling a new genre, adding that the lighthearted nature of the romantic comedy brought plenty of laughter and positive energy to the set.
Jung So Min’s Rom-Com Return
Known for her successful roles in romantic comedies, Jung So Min takes on the character of Bae Seok-ryu in Love Next Door. Seok-ryu is a determined but broken daughter who dreams of restarting her life. Once a rising star as a product manager at a global conglomerate, she suddenly decides to abandon her seemingly perfect life and return home.
The previous character poster’s tagline, “Lagged Alpha Girl,” piqued interest in Bae Seok-ryu, and newly released photos showcase her during the prime of her career. Having studied abroad in the U.S., graduated with top honors from a prestigious university, and secured a position at a leading global corporation. One photo shows her confidently leading an important company presentation, exuding poise and determination. However, another photo shows her at the airport, her once-bright eyes now dimmed, raising questions about what led the “rich man’s daughter” to return home with her spirit diminished.
The actress shared that she deeply related to her latest character after reading the script. She described Seok-ryu as a character who initially follows society’s prescribed path to success but eventually becomes disillusioned and seeks her own way. Jung herself has experienced feeling overwhelmed by life and is learning to live at her own pace, which made her feel a strong connection to Seok-ryu. She approached the role with a sense of support, wanting to walk alongside Seok-ryu on her journey. Jung also noted that viewers’ connections to Seok-ryu will vary depending on their own experiences and perspectives, and she hopes audiences will see Seok-ryu from multiple angles.
