Lee Jun Ho and Im Yoon Ah share the reasons for picking King The Land as well as their preparations and points to watch in the drama.

King The Land is billed as a romantic comedy about a man who despises laughter and a woman who needs to keep smiling because of her job.

Writer Chun Sung Il of the global phenomenon drama series, All Of Us Are Dead, is the creator of King The Land with Choi Rom penning the script and director Im Hyun-wook (Reflection of You) steering the production.

Backing up the production are BY4M Studio and NPIO Entertainment which produced The Red Sleeve, Forecasting Love And Weather, and A Time Called You.

Portraying Gu Won, the heir of King Group who has innate dignity and charisma is Lee Jun Ho. With a brilliant brain and chic charm, he has everything but memories of his mother who suddenly disappeared.

In search of his mother, he enters the King Hotel to find clues and answers to his goal. There he meets Chun Sarang, played by Im Yoon Ah.

Exactly the opposite of his detached personality, Sarang is nicknamed the “smile queen” of King Hotel. Her hard work and great personality have led her to climb from the lobby information desk to the VVIP lounge, King The Land – which is the dream of hoteliers.

Troubles begin to arise in her simple dream of wanting to become a hotelier who gives happiness to people when Gu Won, the Hotel King heir enters her life.

King The Land

Im Yoon Ah as Smile Queen Sarang

Expressing her excitement for playing a refreshing character with bright energy, Im Yoon Ah communicated why she chose King The Land as her next project.

I usually like romantic comedies, and my previous work was in the noir genre, so I thought about how it would be if I greeted you with a slightly brighter and more pleasant project for my next work. The fact that the background was in a hotel VVIP lounge came as a different charm.”

In the drama, Sarang is a character who never loses a kind smile befitting her title of “Smile Queen”.

To draw Sarang’s character, the actress unveils her preparations.

In order to create a character with a smile as a trademark, I tapped into her childhood memories. King Hotel is a place where Sarang’s childhood memories dwell. There are many other sides, but she is a friend who is good at work and has a sense of responsibility and mission, so I tried to show those sides well.

Regarding the points to watch, Yoona hints at a variety of fun from comical elements to sweet romance. There were a lot of location shoots as well as stunning visuals.

Lee Jun Ho as Cynical Gu Won

Responding to the high expectation for his comeback drama, Lee Jun Ho likewise shares his thoughts on picking King The Land.

As it is a romantic comedy, there was an expectation that I would like to make the work enjoyable, and I thought that there would be joy in completing the work together with a good director, staff, and actors with a pleasant chemistry. I wanted to gift the viewers with laughter and excitement.”

Gu-won in King the Land is a third-generation chaebol who appears to be completely flawless but sticks to a harsh and cynical attitude in everything because of deep scars and trauma.

Owing to this, Lee Jun Ho said that he went through the process of constantly thinking about and preparing for the character.

I’m going to show restrained emotions so that you can feel the dark side of Gu Won. After meeting Sarang, she breaks his wounds and trauma. In terms of style, I wear a three-piece suit like a 3rd generation chaebol, but I thought it would be nice to see the shape and strength of the body even outside the suit, so I prepared hard for it.

Inviting viewers to watch the series, Lee shares the drawing point of the series.

I think the charm of King the Land is that even the parts that I know felt like something new. We ask for lots of love and interest in the process of how our characters blossom into a memorable romance.
