“I enjoyed reading the original novel. The fortitude of Heong Cheon Gi was great. She is also the only female painter who is self-reliant. She is different from the female characters shown in previous historical dramas because of her valiant attitude.”
Reuniting with Directo Jang since 2008 SBS drama The Painter of the Wind, the actress expressed happiness working together again with the director.
“I was an acting prodigy back then, and now I have grown up to become a full-fledged female protagonist.”
The Charm of Lovers of the Red Sky
Delineating the drawing point of his new work, Director Jang conveyed the focus of the series is romance.
“It is different from regular political historical dramas or dramas that mainly contain melodrama. Melodrama, fantasy, and historical elements intertwine in Lovers of the Red Sky.”
Director Jang, who directed hit dramas such as My Love from the Star and Tree With Deep Roots, emphasized, how his latest work combines all the charms of his previous works. That includes fantasy, art, and historical political struggles.

The Lead Stars’ Preparations
Sharing she was absorbed into her role as Hong Cheon Gi, Kim Yoo Jung worked hard to express the sentiments and passion of her character.
“I continued to visit the painter teacher and started filming while checking the small details such as hand gestures. Through this drama, you will be able to know the paintings that existed in the past and the truth about why the painters drew them in various ways.”
For Ahn Hyo Seop, his effort to practice the six-string zither (geomungo) is part of the preparations for Haram.
“The instrument called the geomungo is unfamiliar to me. It took a long time to get used to it. I work on it diligently because it was important to what kind of mindset I wanted to express.”
He also revealed how he admired the director’s previous works and the challenge of playing the role of a blind person.
Meanwhile, Gong Myung also studied calligraphy and painting.
“The character Yang Myeong likes art. But I am not a painter like Yoo-Jung, so I do not paint like it is a passion. But I learned how to evaluate and express the meaning of paintings like.”
Lastly, Kwak Si Yang confessed he had a lot of trouble because he is the darkest character in the drama. Even the gestures and his eyes can make viewers sympathize. He assured his acting would explain the pain and anger of his character.
Director Jang teases a new side of Ahn Hyo Seop that viewers can look forward to.
Affirming the pleasant chemistry and filming interaction, the lead stars and the director agree that it is a filming experience worth looking back.
“It’s a drama with a lot of charm. The staff worked hard together while filming. Please watch it comfortably. – Kim Yoo Jung”
