A new spectacle is up for K-Drama fans who like courtroom stories in May It Please The Court!
May It Please The Court just premiered on September 21 top-billed by talented and reliable actors Jung Ryeo Won, Lee Kyu Hyung and Jung Jin Young.
Billed as a courtroom mystery drama, the series features two lawyers working together amidst their contradicting personalities.
Noh Chak-hee (Jung Ryeo Won) is a self-righteous lawyer who does anything for success. In contrast, Lee Si-baek (Lee Kyu Hyung) is a special lawyer who does not care if he got stuck, and will work on his task diligently.
At the press conference, PD Kang acknowledged the pressure since his new series can be compared to the hit legal drama, Extraordinary Attorney Woo.
“When we were making this project, I did not know about Extraordinary Attorney Woo. Of course, there is a burden because it is a very fun drama. I don’t think it’s necessary to put them on the same line just because they’re both courtroom and lawyer stories.”
Expounding on the narrative of the series, PD Kang also discussed how the viewers whine about the focus of romance in legal dramas. Like how the story began with chasing a career, but ended with a romance. Responding to that, the director asserted, “I’m sure the romance part will never obscure the texture of May It Please The Court.”
Echoing the director’s promise, Jung Ryeo Won shared faint but efficient love elements that are included in the story.
“I assure you. If you watch the drama, you’ll want a little more romance. It’s not that we acted to restrain ourselves, we just didn’t want the writer to interfere with the core message of the story.”
Adding to that, Lee Kyu Hyung entertainingly hinted at the love development that will emerge in the story.
“The word romance is unfamiliar to me. It certainly gets more familiar towards the second half. However, as it gets closer, it becomes problematic, and there is even a fight situation.”
K-Dramaland’s New Must-Watch Lawyers
Confessing she almost did not appear in the project, Jung Ryeo Won shared it’s because it will be her third courtroom drama. She relayed that the fresh and great script plus acting as a lawyer made her mind up.
As an actor with a lot of experience in legal dramas, Lee Kyu Hyung gives a sensible reply to why he agreed to appear in the series.
“I played a lot of roles in the Western Prosecutor’s Office, the Northern Prosecutor’s Office, the Southern Prosecutor’s Office, and the prison. I couldn’t find any reason to say no. I also had a relationship with the director.”
May It Please The Court featuring the bold aspirations of Jung Ryeo Won and Lee Kyu Hyung, streams on Disney+ beginning September 21.
