Melancholia mounts teaser posters decorated with Math formulas featuring lead stars Im Soo Jung and Lee Do Hyun on a captivating campus background.
tvN’s 15th-anniversary special project Melancholia, which is scheduled to be aired on November 3, is set in a private high school that is a breeding ground for preferential corruption. It depicts a story more beautiful than mathematics, transcending the myths and prejudices about math teachers and math geniuses.
In the released posters, Ji Yoon-soo (Im Soo Jung), a passionate math teacher, and Baek Seung-yu (Lee Do Hyun), a disappeared math genius, walk together inside a quaintly designed campus highlighted by lush trees. Staring at each other, the images elicit a warm resonance to the viewers.
Ji Yoon-soo’s genuine sincerity towards his student is conveyed from her expression. She looks at Seung-yu like a teacher earnestly educating the wonderful world of Mathematics. Baek Seung-yu gazes back with sparkling eyes seemingly regaining the lost interest in the subject he used to love.
Above all, in the poster, mathematics, the decisive medium through which the worlds of the two overlapped, naturally melted into the everyday landscape, breaking down preconceived notions.
The written Math formula, which was only considered hard and difficult, blends with the path of Yoon-soo and Seung-yu, adding more meaning to their story.
Written on the poster, it says “the moments we were immersed in even if there was no answer.” It opens a different perspective to those who see it. Giving a new image of Mathematics that is perceived to be correct only by finding the right number for the answer.
Melancholia premieres on November 3 at 10:30 PM on tvN. International fans can watch it on iQiyi!
