Lee Do Hyun To Paint A Poignant Story of A Math Genius In “Melancholia”

Melancholia

For his latest drama, Lee Do Hyun draws interest and sympathy to the story he is about to portray.

The first stills of Lee Do Hyun for tvN’s 15th-anniversary special drama Melancholia were unveiled. Along with that, a teaser video was also released. It shows his character talking about mathematics.

“It didn’t work out, that problem. I’m about to give up. They say that there are problems that cannot be solved.”

But then, Im Soo Jung’s character appears, extending help to him. The video foresees the connection that will bloom between them.

Melancholia is set in a private high school that is a breeding ground for preferential corruption. It tells a story more beautiful than Mathematics, which overcomes the conventional wisdom and prejudice among math teachers and math geniuses.

The Disappeared Math Genius

In the drama, Lee portrays Baek Seung-yu, a genius who won various Math Olympiads as a child. He entered MIT at the age of 10, dropped out at the age of 12, and suddenly vanished.

He becomes a voluntary outsider at Asung High School, living a life that has changed 180 degrees from the past. With an indifferent face, he doesn’t pay any attention to anything.

He likes to quietly take pictures with a DSLR camera by himself. He has lost and can’t find his splendid title of a once genius boy.

Even in the published photos, Baek Seung-yu’s expression, staring straight ahead with an empty gaze, stimulates curiosity. He looks calm and unfazed by everything. Also, attention is focused on what kind of scenery will be contained in his camera.

Evidently, the hidden story of Baek Seung-yu, who was revered as a genius but disappeared without a reason, is arousing speculation. Attention is focused on why he decides to leave a promising life and settle for a mundane one.

The production team also updates about what to expect in the actor’s new work.

“Lee Do Hyun is completely immersed in Baek Seung-yu’s character, who does not show very much emotion.”

Melancholia is scheduled to premiere on November 3 at 10:30 PM on tvN
