Set to premiere on September 12, tvN’s new sports drama, Mental Coach Jegal has been unfurling details about the series.
Starring Jung Woo, Kwon Yul, Lee Yoo Mi and Park Se Young; the drama is set to focus on the mental health of athletes.
Meet The Cast of Mental Coach Jegal
Directed by Son Jung Hyun (When My Love Blooms, Should We Kiss First?) – the series will be penned by Kim Ban Di who wrote Angry Mom and Special Labor Inspector Jo.
In the drama, Jung Woo portrays Jegal Gil, an expelled Taekwondo national team member that was expelled. He becomes a mental coach of Cha Gae-eul, portrayed by Lee Yoo Mi. Ga-eul is a short-track gold medalist who overcame a slump and is aiming for a comeback.
It is expected that his passionate performances will break through the stereotyped framework. As reflected in his teaser poster, Jung Woo will bring change to national athletes when he re-enters as a mental coach.
Describing her latest character, Lee Yoo Mi shared that Ga-eul seems weak, but her being able to hold on makes her great.
She also shares similarities with her except for physical strength. For her preparations, she relayed paying attention to her overall appearance including sharp actions and tone of voice. Moreover, she also practiced skiing for 2-3 months and did ground training as well as thigh workout.
Next, Kwon Yul takes on the role of Ko Tae-man, a former Taekwondo gold medalist and director of the Human Rights Center of the Sports Association. He is a known rival of Jegal Gil.
Confrontations from deep-rooted feud would eventually arise with them as their backstories get unveiled.
Lastly, Park Se Young suits up as Park Seung-ha, a psychiatrist and national team’s resident team doctor. The production team tips how Park Se-young perfectly melted into the character.
She has an intelligent and friendly charm through meticulous character research from the first filming. Also, she radiated positive energy with a clear smile while filming.
Mental Coach Jegal premieres on September 12 on tvN and TVING!
