First Love Revisited: Song Joong Ki and Chun Woo Hee Embrace a Poignant Reunion in “My Youth”

A first love is never truly forgotten—and in JTBC’s upcoming drama My Youth, it might just find its way back.

Set to premiere on September 5th, My Youth reunites acclaimed actors Song Joong Ki and Chun Woo Hee in a touching story of love lost, memory preserved, and the hope of rediscovery. The drama promises to take viewers on an emotional ride between past and present as it paints the delicate, time-worn portrait of two people who once meant everything to each other at nineteen—and might again.

Ahead of its premiere, the production team released a dreamy teaser poster and a nostalgic opening video that instantly stirred emotions. With imagery that echoes journal pages left unfinished and the golden ache of youth, the series captures the bittersweet allure of first love that never quite faded.

In My Youth, Song Joong Ki plays Seon Woo-hae, a once-celebrated child actor who peaked too early in life. Now a florist and novelist living on his own terms, Woo-hae leads a quiet, reflective life—until a familiar face from the past disrupts his stillness. That face belongs to Sung Je-yeon, played by Chun Woo Hee, a no-nonsense team leader whose heart still bears the faint outlines of her youthful love.

Their love story began at nineteen: awkward, pure, and brimming with innocence. But life moved on, and so did they—or so it seemed. When they meet again as adults, memories come rushing back like a sudden summer rain—sweet, strange, and impossible to ignore.

The reunion becomes a turning point, especially for Woo-hae, who embarks on a journey to reclaim a part of himself lost in the shadows of fame and forgotten time. Through Je-yeon, who once gave him light in his darkest days, he begins to feel again—hope, warmth, maybe even love.

A Glimpse of Tenderness in Latest Teasers

The teaser poster offers a visual metaphor for their story: a photograph tucked inside a diary, corners curled, surrounded by blank pages waiting to be filled. The caption, “I will recognize you again and again, always,” hints at the emotional depth of a bond that defies time and distance. It suggests not just a romance, but a rediscovery—of another person, and perhaps oneself.

The opening teaser video amplifies this sentiment. It opens with Woo-hae’s voice, soft and wistful: “Who remembers that first season, that year, that first snow?” The line echoes across seasons past, bringing forth hazy memories of shy smiles, rainy bus rides, and hearts that beat faster without knowing why.

We catch glimpses of their teenage selves, portrayed by Nam Da-reum and Jeon So-young, laughing on a rainy day as they board a bus—an image that feels both distant and immediate, like a memory surfacing unbidden. Woo-hae’s narration continues: “When you were nineteen, you stood out like a rock—you’d pop out and trip me up at any time.” It’s a sentiment that lingers with anyone who’s ever tried to forget their first love, only to find them suddenly present again.

Joining the central pair is a compelling supporting cast. Lee Joo-myung plays Mo Tae-rin, another former child star, known for her unpredictable charm and candid heart. Her storyline weaves together themes of identity and affection, especially as she reunites with Kim Seok-ju, played by Seo Ji-hoon—her first love and Woo-hae’s new brother.

Each character adds a thread to the tapestry of My Youth, creating a complex, layered story about growth, grief, and the human desire to hold onto something real—no matter how much time has passed.

My Youth airs on JTBC every Friday at 8:50 PM, starting September 5, with two consecutive episodes broadcast each week. In Korea, replays will be available via Coupang Play, making it easily accessible for those who want to rewatch the emotional moments—or catch up if they miss the premiere.
