Continuing its sweet assault of teasers, Netflix’s D.P. Deserter Pursuit promises a showcase of passionate portrayals from its talented cast.
Narrating, the story of a young army private who unexpectedly becomes a desertion arrest officer, he finds himself in confusing and complicated situations.
Together with members of D.P. unit, they face a reality they did not know while chasing people with various stories.
D.P. is an acronym for ‘Deserter Pursuit,’ a unit within the Army’s Military Police for tracking down AWOL soldiers. With this novel premise and a close look into issues within the military, the original webtoon by Kim Bo-tong was a huge hit that attracted over 10 million readers in Korea.
Spearheading the production, Director Han has shared his thoughts about the four main characters of the story.
Dynamic Duo of D.P. Unit
Ahead of the premiere, Netflix has unveiled various captured moments of the D.P. unit.
Jung Hae In takes on the role of Private Ahn Jun-ho, who enlisted as if running away from a violent and helpless environment. He was recruited as a D.P. member for escaping military duties and boxing history.
For his newest character, Jung practiced boxing for three months before filming. Immersing himself to Jun-ho by understanding his inner changes as he faced the deserters who ran away from the army.
Director Han Jun Hee revealed he wanted the actor for the role.
“I had Jung Hae-in in mind from the beginning. I thought he had the feeling of a universal and ordinary young man who seemed to be around us.”
Playing Corporal Han Ho-yeol, who has a non-military appearance and tone plus a smirkful personality is actor Koo Kyo Hwan.
Ho-yeol seems to be indifferent to everything and has no motivation, but he is sharper than anyone and is more serious about catching deserters than anyone else. He imparts a lot of know-how to Junho, who has just become a DP, and brings joy and vitality to the story.
Additionally, Han Ho-yeol is a new character in the series, and Koo has completed the light but heavy emotions of the character with his own personality and charm.
Director Han describes Koo’s performance of Ho-yeol as impressive.
“He is an actor who shows a very sharp performance.”
D.P. Unit Senior Officers
Meanwhile, viewers are also set to meet Kim Sung Kyun and Son Seok Koo who suit up as senior DPs.
Park Bum-gu, played by Kim Seong-gyun, is an officer in charge of evasion of military duties in the Investigation Department of the Military Police Department.
He is more zealous than anyone in the investigation of deserters, but he struggles to be promoted because he never bends to his superiors.
Kim Sung Kyun is blunt, but he expresses the presence of Park Bum-gu, who is full of the desire to bring the DP and deserters safely.
Director Han Jun-hee said, “I tried to capture the most natural image of Kim Sung Kyun that is not biased by genre.” Lauding his performance, he mentioned how Kim perfectly melted into Park Bum-gu, who always quietly becomes a shadow behind the DP.
Son Seok Koo, who left a strong impression on the public with his unique acting, added tension to the disassembled work as Captain Lim Ji-seop, who clashes with Sergeant Park Bum-gu over DP work.
“Im Ji-seop is a very colorful character,” said Director Han. He believes that Son Seok Koo is suitable for a three-dimensional character who constantly struggles in the position of a superior.
Netflix series D.P. will be released only on Netflix on August 27.
