Challenging an interesting character, Im Si Wan readies to paint the tale of Byung-tae in Once Upon A Boyhood.
Set in 1989, Boyhood tells the story of Jang Byung-tae, a loser whose life goal is not to be bullied. Moving to a new school, he transforms into the school’s best boy overnight. It also features the friendly and humorous Chungcheong lifestyle and humor.
Previously, the first set of filming photos captured Byung-tae, a loner mistaken as the “best boy” on the first day of school at Buyeo Agricultural High School.
Portraying Byung-tae is Im Si Wan whose popular works include The Attorney, Misaeng, Run On and Tracer. In Boyhood, the actor aims to show off his polar opposite charm that goes back and forth between timidity and boldness and heralds the birth of another memorable character.
Subsequently, the first poster makes a commanding presence with Im Si Wan standing majestically on a rice field ridge with eager eyes. The solemnity and triviality that coexist in the figure holding a bachelor’s stance and holding a shovel high create a strange charm.
Expressing his feelings for his latest character, Im Si Wan gravitated to the exciting story of Byung-tae who is dubbed as Onyang scoundrel but was mistaken as the best fighter of Buyeo overnight.
“The series of unintentional coincidences made me laugh and disarmed my heart.”
In addition, as the story unfolds against the background of Buyeo Agricultural High School in Chungcheong Province in the 1980s, he was passionate about character preparation by taking Chungcheong dialect classes for three months before filming as well as special training with dancer Hyo Jin Choi to learn the dances that were popular at the time.
Director Lee Myung-woo lauds the actor for his commitment.
“As an actor who is popular these days, as soon as I saw him, I was amazed and thought, ‘There could really have a character like that in the old days.”
It raises expectations for the performance of Im Si Wan.
Once Upon A Boyhood will be released every Friday at 8 PM on Coupang Play starting on November 24th.
