Nearing its premiere, Our Beloved Summer lead stars shared their thoughts about their characters in the press conference of the drama.

Directed by Kim Yoon Jin and written by Lee Na Eun, Our Beloved Summer narrates the experiences of high school lovers who decided to part ways.

Having a love-hate relationship, Choi-Woong and Yeon-Soo differ in their personality. Choi-Woong was a free-spirited soul. Meanwhile, Yeon-Soo is a goal-getter and sets her mind to things so that she can accomplish her dreams.

After ten years, Choi-Woong and Yeon-Soo were forced to meet again because of a documentary that they filmed together. The video that they shoot gained popularity and gave an open space for them to see and talk to each other again.

Actors of Our Beloved Summer Shed Some Thoughts

At the press conference of the drama, the actors and director Kim shared some of their experiences and preparations that they did to produce a well-made drama.

“Both actors are not just me but also the actors whom everyone wants to be with. I delivered the script with a nervous heart. I was so worried and excited, but I was so grateful that I received the answer that I wanted to be with them, and I was filled with joy,” said director Kim

Meanwhile, Choi Woo Shik said that his character Choi-Woong shows two charms. It’s either he’ll loosen up or put so much concentration. He also admits that they have similar personalities.

“When I look at the work, I think about how well I can express it. Sometimes he loosens up, and sometimes he shows sharp concentration. Sometimes I feel serious and cold, I think it’s similar to me.”

Moreover, Kim Da Mi said that most of her characters in dramas are strong ones. That’s why in Our Beloved Summer she was able to personify Yeon-Soo comfortably.

“I have played many strong characters so I wanted to play a realistic character and try a romantic comedy genre too much. I didn’t script my lines, but I used to follow each other directly even if I went with different emotions.”

Meanwhile, Kim Sung Chul who plays the role of Kim Ji Woong, admits that it is quite challenging to dress up his character.

“Since I’m an actor, I’m used to expressing myself and it’s very common to convey my feelings and thoughts to someone, but Kim Ji-Woong is completely opposite. I tried to be as insensitive as possible. I focused a lot on what seemed to be unthinking. I was exhausted at times, but every time, the director and the actors gave me strength.”

Lastly, Ro Jeong Eui who portrays top idol “NJ” with no place to climb anymore, expressed her insights for her first adult acting.

“I was so excited because it was my first adult acting, and I felt a lot of pressure. I also have been working since I was young, so I have a lot of similarities, but I have never been a top idol. I tried to express the unique atmosphere of the top idol well, but it was difficult. I was thinking about how to create an atmosphere externally, but I turned to the director’s suggestion. I prepared them while referring to various video clips of idol groups.”

Choi Woo Shik and Kim Da Mi’s characters are anticipated to have dynamic changes as they venture from being teenagers to adults and still find love along their way. The supporting characters also put great synergy and combination in the story.

Our Beloved Summer premieres its pilot episode on December 6, 10:00 pm on SBS. International fans may catch it on Netflix.
