Set during the most extreme prohibition period in the history of Korea, Moonshine in a nutshell revolves around a conscientious inspector who hunts down moonshiners. However, he ironically falls in love with a poor aristocrat’s daughter who brews alcohol for a living.

For that reason, the Director of Moonshine, along with its lead casts Lee Hyeri and Yoo Seung Ho, indulge in a written interview to supply their enthusiastic fans and the international viewers.
Director’s Viewpoint
During the production presentation, Director Hwang In Hyuk shared that Moonshine is “the story of young people who rebel against the virtual prohibition in the late Joseon Dynasty.”
Pertaining to the theme of Prohibition, he stated,
“There is also the curiosity of Prohibition itself, and the setting encompasses the entire drama, so it is a shackle and a fun point of the story. I wanted to create a space to think about prohibition.”
He also stated that “there are perspectives and tendencies that the characters have about the story.”
Furthermore, Director Hwang believes the novel subject of alcohol prohibition has never been addressed before. Besides that. he takes pride in how Writer Kim Joo Hee has woven the concepts of friendship, growth, and love of four young people in Moonshine.
Main Cast Musings on Moonshine
In detail, Hyeri transforms as a rule-breaker in this series. She is the breadwinner of her poor aristocratic family. Due to that, she attempts to change their status in life by brewing alcohol. Despite the strict prohibition implemented, she cautiously continues her line of work.
In a written interview when asked about her takeaways and experiences Hyeri shared that:
“I always asked Yoo Seung-ho for acting at the filming site, and he was very considerate. The weather was very difficult because of the cold and hot weather (thanks to Yoo Seung Ho).”
On the other hand in response to Hyeri’s statement, Yoo Seung Ho said:
“I want to give Hyeri and me a high score. She seems to be herself as a character in the play. She is positive and bright and wears hanbok, but she acted well without making an impression. I was able to do it. It helped me to become more blunt and cool as Namyoung.”
Meanwhile, when asked about how they see each other’s characters in the drama, the pair answered that they are giving each other a 100% rate.
“Yoo Seung-ho and Nam-young’s synchro rate is 100% the same. Nam-young’s character has calmness and calmness. Something straight-forward is in line with Yoo Seung-ho and has a similar feeling.” – Lee Hyeri
