The Good Detective is back for Season 2 and features an even more thrilling adventure this July 30!
On July 28, JTBC’s new Saturday-Sunday action and thriller drama The Good Detective 2 directed by Jo Nam Kook and written by Choi Jin Won held a media conference.
The event was held at the Grand Ballroom of Seoul Garden Hotel in Dohwa-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul. It was attended by Son Hyun Joo, Jang Seung Jo, Kim Hyo Jin, and Cho Nam Guk.
The Good Detective 2 is a detective drama of the 2nd strong team of model detectives who face the ugly desires of evil people beyond good with one truth.
It is a follow-up series to The Good Detective, which recorded its highest viewership rating of 7.609% (15th episode, Nielsen Korea, nationwide). After about two years, it was reorganized into a season system and landed on small screens for a second season.
On Working Together Again
Director Jo Nam Kook said,
“Two years ago, due to COVID-19, we held an online production presentation, and at the time, Son Hyun Joo promised something. I really want to do season 2. I’m happy to be able to keep that promise. Season 2 is always tense. I’m worried about what to do if a worse rating than Season 1 follows. I really did my best. Please look forward to it,” he said.
Son Hyun Joo said,
“It’s not a project I started with high expectations in season 1. So, season 2 is very shaky and tense”.
Furthermore, Director Jo Nam Kook and actor Son Hyun Joo have collaborated on numerous projects for a long time.
Director Jo Nam Kook said, “This is my sixth collaboration with Son Hyun Joo. It’s like a friend you can talk to. It’s a comfortable but uncomfortable relationship because we know each other well.”
Son Hyun Joo said, “I worked with director Jo Nam Kook a lot. He is a meticulous and punctual person. There is no B team in our work. Director Jo is a person who encompasses about 100 staff members. Still, I am more of an emotional person than a rational person.”
Moreover, Son Hyun Joo and Jang Seung-jo are also reuniting for the second time to work again.
Son Hyun Joo said, “Jang Seung-jo was much bigger in season 2 than in season 1. As you can see from the works of ‘The Good Detective 2’, they attack me a lot. I appear to have grown up in season 2 than in season 1. I became softer and more relaxed. In season 2, I had a higher synergy with Jang Seung Jo”.
Additionally, Son Hyun Joo said, “There is more to see in season 2 than in season 1. At the center of it is Kim Hyo Jin,” he added with a laugh.
Unfolding Mysteries for the Second Time
On what to expect in season 2, Jang Seung Jo said,
“The atmosphere was different when we were filming for season 2. I was happy to be able to act with Son Hyun Joo in season 1, I thought I was happy to be able to work with him in season 2. What is memorable is that Son Hyun Joo’s eyes changed in the scene where he was dealing with the victim’s family. It was creepy. An exclamation came from within. This image will be captured on camera and will be seen on the air.”
When asked about his breathing with Son Hyun Joo in one word, he answered, “100 out of 100.”
“Thanks to the viewers who loved Season 1. I hope season 2 will be loved as well.”
New Addition to the Cast
Moreover, as a new member of the cast, Kim Hyo Jin said,
“I was worried about joining Season 1 because it received so much love. I thought I was the only one who could do it well. It is an honor to be able to be with you and I hope that we will receive a lot of love this time as well.”
She also added,
“Since Season 1 is a work that received a lot of love, it is true that I was worried about joining Season 2. I think season 2 will do well if I do well.” She said, “The script was so fun and good. Among the detectives, the character has a lot of charm. There was pressure because it was a character I had never played before, but the director gave me the courage and believed in me. The filming location was also good. It is an honor to be able to work with good actors. I hope season 2 will receive a lot of love.”
Regarding this, director Jo Nam Kook said,
“Kim Hyo Jin was ranked 0 in casting. Viewers will know when they see the work. Kim Hyo Jin is the center of our work. It’s a secret weapon.”
Also, Son Hyun Joo, who appeared in a cast on that day, said,
“I broke my wrist while filming for season 2. He is currently rehabilitating. Isn’t this called ‘injury fighting spirit’?” and said, “My condition is improving a lot. So you don’t have to worry about season 3. Each character has a certain character, so there is no reason not to do season 3,” he said, suggesting the possibility of season 3 production.
Furthermore, Season 2 of The Good Detective grossed more than season 1. Beyond the box office success of season 1, viewers’ expectations are heightened in season 2. However, the question is whether it will continue until season 3.
