“Twenty Five Twenty One” Introduces Vibrant Youth Cast Led by Nam Joo Hyuk & Kim Tae Ri

Upcoming tvN Saturday-Sunday drama Twenty five Twenty One depicts the story of young people during the 1998 crisis. The series is a work produced by Hwa & Dam Pictures, which is written by Kwon Do-eun and directed by Jung Ji-hyun.

The series is set to tell the story of first love, growth, youth, and friendship. In one of the newly released posters and teasers, the chemistry of the five youthful characters will remind viewers of pure and youthful memories.


Nam Joo Hyuk as Baek Yi-Jin

Challenged by the times, Nam Joo Hyuk takes on the role of a reporter named Baek Yi-jin, who is the eldest son of a family that was affected by the IMF crisis. Due to the impact of the IMF crisis on his family, he also takes on various part-time jobs.

In one of the released scenes in the drama, Nam Joo Hyuk as Baek Yi-Jin appears to be apologetic with his head bowed down in front of people who came over to their house. He is confronted by the people, they raise their voices on him, to which Baek Yi-jin stumbles around and breaks down into tears, conveying his sincerity.

Nam Joo Hyuk garners attention for being immersed in his acting, gathering all his emotions during the rehearsal, and delivering a tearful scene while filming. He kept still in his place for a while even after the director’s cut, absorbed into his acting. 

Producers of the drama share that Nam Joo Hyuk thoroughly analyzes and ponders on every scene, commending the actor for his special passion for acting. 


Kim Tae Ri as Na Hee-Do

Completing a unique youthful character, Kim Tae Ri plays the role Na Hee-do, a dignified high schooler who is part of the dissolved fencing team in her school. Despite the disbandment due to the IMF crisis, she still dreams to be a fencer, radiating the pure and refreshing feeling of being 18. 

Kim Tae Ri’s character Na Hee-do has a released scene in the drama where she encounters bullies. Even though they are pressing on her shoulders, the energy that she exudes along with her fiery look arouses curiosity.

Before the filming of that scene, Kim Tae Ri has prepared by relaxing her body to relieve the tension. Moreover, she also checked her movement several times and concentrated on acting naturally. Through her repeated rehearsals, the actress was able to fully immerse herself in Na Hee-do’s emotions with her eyes and facial expressions. 

With Kim Tae Ri’s realistic portrayal of her character, the producers of the drama have admired her scene in the drama. The bright and energetic aspects of 18-year-old youth like Na Hee-Do are said to be something to look forward to.


Kim Ji Yeon as Go Yu-Rim

Kim Ji Yeon, also known as Cosmic Girls’ Bona, plays Go Yu-rim, the rival of Na Hee-do. Her character is a member of the national fencing team, and possesses the charisma of a gold medalist in fencing. Despite her strong charisma, she also exudes a cute aura after taking off her fencing suit.

Go Yu-rim is a character who works hard on her fencing practice, shown in one of the released stills where she repeats her fencing movements even drenched in sweat while wearing her school uniform. 

In addition to that, one of the released scenes presents Go Yu-Rim who lovingly smiles after picking up an umbrella that fell from the sky. Her worried expression because of the sudden rain after her fencing practice transformed into a bright smile.

Actress Kim Ji Yeon admits how she really enjoyed reading the script because of the charm of her character, Go Yu-rim. She states that she admires her character who does her best in everything, focusing on her family and fencing. She elaborates how her character carries her burdens alone and pretends to be okay on the outside, but changes gradually after meeting her friends. 

Challenging various genres, Kim Ji Yeon raises expectations with her portrayal of her character. Producers of the drama have acknowledged her constant practice and effort, as well as her hard-earned acting skills to play as the gold medalist Go Yu-Rim.

In addition to that, the production team has also commended the actress for her bright energy at the site, greeting the staff and fulfilling her scenes with vitality. Her scene during the sudden rain after her practice has been praised as the actress has rehearsed her movements repeatedly. 


Choi Hyun Wook as Moon Ji-Woong

Joining the set of youthful cast members, actor Choi Hyun Wook plays the role of  Moon Ji Woong. He is set to be a positive character that appears to be like an influencer from head to toe.

Lee Joo Myung as Ji Seung-Wan

Completing the group, Lee Joo Myung takes on the role of  Ji Seung-wan. Her character is compared to Joan of Arc as she is a top student and a student leader, but also has aspects of rebellion inside her.

More than the story about first love, the chemistry of five young people who share the excitement and worries together shall be expected in the upcoming series. The group poster has attracted attention with its inclusion of retro fashion, conveying the feeling of 1998 youth. Together with that, the upcoming series also is set to deliver comfort and empathy to its viewers.

Twenty Five Twenty One is scheduled to broadcast on February 12 on tvN. International fans may watch it on Netflix.
