Disney+’s original series Uncle Samsik has confirmed its release date with a teaser trailer and poster.
Headlined by Parasite star Song Kang Ho, and Byun Yo Han (Mr. Sunshine), Uncle Samsik is a societal drama set in 1960s Korea that follows an idealistic politician, and a mysterious political fixer called Uncle Samsik who operates in the shadows. Together the pair form an uneasy partnership to transform a struggling post-war Korea into a prosperous country where everyone can afford three meals a day.
In the opening trailer people looking for Uncle Samsik in different situations are featured. Some people sing with joy, but others sing with suspicion, earnestness, and contempt, heightening curiosity about him.
When asked, “What does three meals mean?” Kim San (Byun Yo Han), an elite young man, calmly explains, “Even during the war, he fed his family three meals a day and they never starved.”
In response, Uncle Samsik says, “Everyone calls me that, out of love and respect. I like it so much. It’s my nickname.” He leaves a strong lingering feeling as he shows a meaningful smile.
As the name everyone was looking for, it raises expectations of how he will become entangled with people looking for him.
Disney+ 2024 K-Content Roster: “Blood Free”, “Uncle Samsik”, “Light Shop” and More
The accompanying poster released together captures hearts with the warm gaze and smile that only Song Kang Ho can capture. Because he feeds his family all three meals, everyone calls him ‘Uncle Three Meals’.
The sight of him holding a snack in one hand and a dried oyster in the other leaves a deep impression. Here, the copy “When your stomach is full, your heart opens” points to Uncle Samsik’s main line which contains his philosophy of life.
The sight of Uncle Samsik, who prioritizes the importance of eating well and living well, with both hands full of food, raises curiosity about who the person facing him is.
Uncle Samsik will be released on Disney+ on May 15th and will be available in a total of 16 episodes.
