I won’t lie that the noona love I have for Kim Yo Han was hanging by a thread in the first two episodes of A Love So Beautiful. *grin
Thankfully, it has started to pick up momentum after the fourth episode. I watch the Chinese version on repeat whenever I am emotionally or physically exhausted to write. So, yes the story has a special irreplaceable place in my heart.
It is that one simple young love story that is really trite and shallow, but the heart-fluttering scenes just hit home big time. While I am hoping the Korean remake would match it, I am not keeping my hopes high. But, it would definitely be appreciated, if it can at least measure up to its original live version.
As what I previously mentioned, since the C-Drama version has been serving as one of my soothing drama pills, it’s hard not to compare on my end. I basically memorize all the things about it.
The Korean adaptation has taken the mood so far and yay! the endearing epilogues are also present.
Because the cut and flow of the series is not fit for a regular recap, I designed and tweaked my usual recap format to fit A Love So Beautiful.
Episodes 1 – 4 Highlights
Sol-yi’s Sweet Cha Heon Devotion
Shin Sol-yi (So Joo Yeon) has been friends with Cha Heon (Kim Yo Han) for as long as she can remember since they live in the same apartment.
Inevitably young romance blossomed especially for Sol-yi who does not hide her genuine feelings. Despite being aloof, Cha Heon can only be bothered in matters regarding Sol-yi. A sweet side effect of growing up together and him getting used to her by his side.
A Love So Beautiful moves to the trajectory of how Sol-yi’s unrequited love turns reciprocated eventually. Since its bland start, we have seen the romantic connection progressed, aided of course by Cha Heon’s unexpressed jealousy courtesy of Woo Dae-sung.
Kim Yo Han’s portrayal of the male lead still has opportunities to improve definitely. But his chemistry with So Ju Yeon is felt, and that’s what matters for now.
Blooming Friendship
Another feature of the series is the quirky bond shared by the five friends. As they traverse on their school lives, their close connection are set to be forged by time and memories.
Side Love Stories
While Cha Heon hides feeling jealous, that’s not the case for Sol-yi who has resigned to her fate of adoring him wholeheartedly.
Thus, she ensures her place in his life is secure. And their classmate Hui-ji who keeps approaching Cha Heon is making her unhappy.
But her resolute young love would of course move mountains for her first love.
Likewise, Ha-young and Jin-hwan’s supporting love tale is not to be missed. The two are giving life to their roles with such immersion.
The Two Boys Who Like Sol-yi
Finding himself drawn to Sol-yi, transfer student and swimmer athlete Dae-sung has a lot of weight on his shoulders.
His young love is one-sided and the pressure of being an athlete swimmer inhibits his normal youth life.
Meeting Sol-yi became his oasis, and he is certainly putting up a nice fight in parading all those things proving how much he cares about Sol-yi.
On the other hand, Cha Heon has been used to being an unwarranted fortress for Sol-yi who seems to have a habit of causing trouble. He may not vocally express it, but his actions always tend to shield her without her realizing it.
A Love So Beautiful Episodes 1 to 4 Musings
Settling its friendship and young love story in its first four episodes, I would recommend to watch this drama in two or more episodes. Trust me on this. It streams on Netflix every Monday, Thursday and Saturday so you can have a weekend binge-watch option.
As a fan service drama, the scattered humor, friendship and love story coupled with feel-good vibe layer the charm of the series. Aiming for viewers to savor its cheerful story celebrating youth, look forward also to reminisce your very own memories.
Indeed, the storytelling and even its direction is shallow, but its deal breaker interestingly is how it makes you smile and happy even without nothing much going on in the plot.
A Love So Beautiful is the drama you can tune in to break the saturation of serious dramas in case you are watching one. Plus it caters to youth so you can share it with your family as well.
