At A Distance Spring Is Green Key Moments
In episode 3, a drunk and broken Yeo Joon calls Nam Soo Hyun for help. Still working at his part-time job, Nam Soo Hyun calls Kim So Bin instead.
She hurries and sees a dejected Yeo Joon. He is heartbroken after knowing he still disappoints his family. To fill the emotional void, he unconsciously asks So Bin to like him.
Taken by surprise, So Bin is flustered and thought that Yeo Joon is confessing to her. She abruptly admits that she likes someone else.
The next day, So Bin hopes that Yeo Joon doesn’t remember her confession. But to her surprise, Yeo Joon remembers and tries to make So Bin tell him who she likes.
After analyzing So Bin’s actions, Yeo Joon confirms that So Bin is in love with her childhood friend. He helps So Bin summons her courage and helped on picking her outfit.
On the day of So Bin’s confession, she went to her childhood friend’s apartment and prepared dinner. When the doorbell rang, her high hopes get crushed when she sees who’s behind the door.
So Bin runs out while crying and goes to Yeo Joon’s apartment. He comforts her and suggests he can pretend to be her boyfriend. Heartbroken, So Bin also thinks that it’s the only way to heal and forget her first love.
Nam Soo Hyun and Yeo Joon’s Contrasting Realities
As At The Distance Spring Is Green unravels its direction, the contrasting personalities and lives of Soo Hyun and Yeo Joon are unveiling.
Soo Hyun has a cold personality, while Yeo Joon has a warm and bright personality. The recent episode conveys that Nam Soo Hyun only cares about himself. Meanwhile, Yeo Joon can be seen that he wants people to like him not because of his upbringing.
Though Nam Soo Hyun has a cold and firm appearance, his character slowly unveils his other personality. He sacrifices rest and freedom to provide comfort for his brother.
He is seen smiling around his brother but puts on his masks when outside. He also helped in carrying drunk Yeo Joon on his back without minding him throwing up.
When Soo Hyun arrived at Yeo Joon’s apartment, that’s when reality hits him. No matter how much hard work and sacrifices he exerts, a great life is far from his reach.
On the other hand, Yeo Joon seems like he got all the things in the world. But he longs and desperate for attention and love.
Additionally, episode 3 displayed a new personality of Yeo Joon. He knew that So Bin will encounter her first love’s girlfriend but insists on confessing that day.
Thoughts are circulating whether he did that for attention or a way to find true love. Hopefully, the upcoming episodes answer the reasons for Yeo Joon’s actions.
At A Distance Spring Is Green Episode 3 Musings
The recent episode of the series is a slow burn for me. At A Distance Spring Is Green went all out on the first week’s heart-fluttering moments.
The third episode highlights the negative feelings of the characters. Just what Director Kim Jong Hyun said about the title, the series is slowly revealing the message.
“If you look at life from far it looks like a comedy, but if you look at it from close, it is a tragedy.”
At A Distance Spring Is Green is by far poking secrets and curiosity to its viewers. As it continues, I’m always excited about how the characters develop their personalities as the story progresses.
It also provides diverse characters we can all relate to. I feel that viewers will see another side of youth and understand them more.
As for Nam Soo Hyun and Yeo Joon, their characters suit each other. Though they are contrasting, I am excited to see how their brotherly chemistry will bloom.
