Brain Works Episodes 9 & 10 Highlights

“It will be fine if I disappear.”

The police received an ominous call from an unknown person claiming he had killed somebody. Shortly after the body was found, the victim’s stepson, Kim Joon-yeong, confessed to the murder, leading police to arrest him as a suspect.

While testifying in the interrogation room, he looks confused and disoriented. He insists that he is 17 years old, not 22 years old. Myung-se and the team call him ‘Reset Man’ because his memory seems to reset every 30 minutes.

The examination revealed traces of bleeding in Joon-yeong’s brain, indicating that he had suffered a head injury in the past. Therefore, Ha-ru concludes that he suffers from anterograde amnesia. It is a rare condition in which the person cannot form new memories.

To solve the mystery, Myung-se and Seol Captain Seol performed hypnosis on a witness to revive her memories of the culprit. According to the witness, she smelled pool water and recalled seeing red scars on the backs of his hands. After confirming her testimony, Ha-ru was convinced that Joon-yeong’s younger brother, Ho-yeong was the real culprit.

“For the first time in my life, I felt like I had someone on my side.”

The following day, Ha-ru and Geum Myung-se heard that Ho-yeong was attempting to commit suicide on the roof of a motel. After the situation ceased, Geum Myung-se asked Ho-yeong why he had killed his mother.

He confesses that he was actually trying to kill himself to escape his mother but accidentally killed her instead. He claims that his mother abused Joon-yeong when his father was not around and that she’s the one who caused the injury to Joon-yeong’s head.

When Ha-ru asked why he framed his older brother, Ho-yeong replied that Joon-yeong had falsely accused himself and reported it voluntarily to protect him. After closing the case, Joon-yeong received treatment for his condition with the help of the police department.

Meanwhile, Ha-ru met Dong-woo in prison and talked about his accident when he was six years old. When he came home, he suddenly recalled a small detail from his accident.

On the other hand, Myung-se goes on a first date with Captain Seol. He confesses that he liked her long ago but dismisses his feelings because he doesn’t deserve her. In the middle of their date, Mo-ran suddenly called, saying she saw a dead body on the street.

Brain Works Episodes 9 & 10 Musings

Ha-ru’s walls are slowly coming down. We can see more of his character development in the latest episodes. He displays his compassionate side and becomes empathetic to others. Additionally, he gradually warms up to Myung-se and treats him as his friend instead of holding a grudge against him.

Moreover, Myung-se and Captain Seol’s first date and love confession were awkwardly adorable. Captain Seol’s bold and assertive personality balances Myung-se’s timid actions. Viewers can look forward to seeing Captain Seol and Mo-ran fight over Myung-se in the succeeding episodes.

Despite this, the uncovering of Ha-ru’s past is proceeding more slowly than it should. His relationship with Dong-woo has made little development halfway through the series. Hopefully, we will have more answers in the following episodes.
