Brain Works

Brain Works Episodes 11 & 12

“Having a disease does not necessarily make you a murderer.”

In their newest murder case, the victim was a makeup artist Jo Na-young. At the crime scene, a message written on the mirror said, ‘I did what my brain told me’. The NIT immediately started their investigation and put the victim’s boyfriend, Lim Young-hoon, as their prime suspect.

However, after tracing the location of the victim’s missing phone, it is revealed that the culprit is in the same jail where the psychopathic killer Dong-woo is detained. As it turns out, the killer is Kang In-ho, the prison guard in charge of Dong-woo.

He obeys Dong-woo’s orders and deceives the police into thinking he’s in jail when he’s already at the police station, preparing to harm Gil-joong. Fortunately, Captain Seol arrived on time to save the chief before he was injured.

Due to this, Ha-ru suspects Dong-woo brainwashed In-ho into murdering his ex-girlfriend and harming him. However, Dong-woo assures him that he has nothing to do with the case and that the prison guard committed the crime alone.

The following day, In-ho’s case held a trial where he appealed to reduce his criminal sentence. Ha-ru and Myung-se attend and find out that Dong-woo will be a witness. Dong-woo made a false claim insisting that he is proof that psychopaths are victims of their illnesses and that they can’t resist their urges to kill.

However, Ha-ru refuted his claims saying that not all psychopaths are murderers. He then proceeded to show pictures of his brain scan as evidence that he also has a psychopathic brain.

“There’s only one thing I want. Not breaking up.”

Following the trial, Myung-se and Captain Seol began dating exclusively. They met at a park for a weekend date and strolled in the autumn leaves while holding hands while making happy memories.

Meanwhile, Mo-ran sought Ha-ru’s advice, claiming that her libido had mysteriously vanished after she stopped taking her diet pills. Ha-ru then directed Myung-se to look into the drug’s ingredients.

After a while, they found out that the diet pills Mo-ran was taking contained Viagra for women.

He concluded that Mo-ran’s excessive sexual desire was a medical accident. Captain Seol, devastated to see Myung-se endure the consequences of their situation, chose to break up with him on false pretenses.

Brain Works Episodes 11 & 12 Musings

The two episodes differed slightly from the previous ones because they didn’t focus much on the murder case. They also gave Dong-woo more air time which greatly helped in magnifying how manipulative and destructive his character is.

Furthermore, Ha-ru’s brief flashbacks reveal that his parents were murdered, and clues point to Director Park. This makes me wonder how Ha-ru will respond once the truth is out.

On the other hand, Myung-se being a supportive boyfriend to Captain Seol radiate a warm and light feeling that lightens up the mood of the episodes. However, it is quite sad to see their romance immediately cut because of Mo-ran’s revelation.

Presenting more clues and complicated relationships, the series provides comical yet realistic performances that keep you on the hook and waiting for more.
